I need help with hum
First step - disconnect the cable TV wire from everything and unplug that cable box.
Hardwood floors vs Carpet
Hardwood is great for live music. SUCKS for audio reproductions though! Replace that carpet with some new carpet in your listening room. I can say from experience that hardwood is floors are going to cost your system, if you care about sound quali...
Power Cord Review
I second the comment by Manzoor to ditch the Shunyatas from the review. WAY too much hype surrounds these cords and it seems that lately people are selling them in droves. Why not try something different like some of the names listed on this thread?
Power Cord Review
Jim - The Monarchy cords are pretty good. I like the plugs the light, flexible cord. However, I think that it is unfairly priced. Yes, $100 is cheap compared to $1,000 cords, but the parts and labor in the Monarchy cord don't seem to add up to $10...
Power Cord Review
Electra Glide Power Cord along with the Synergistic Research AC Master Coupler are the cords that started this whole power cord revolution, in many ways. They weren't the first audiophile power cords, but the first that really made people sit up a...
Dipole or monopole speakers
The use of dipole or mono depends on your room and speaker placement. I find that if you have a large room and can place your listening chair in the center of the room, away from walls, then you can get good sound with direct radiating monos behin...
MIT T- 2 OR BETTERCABLES? FOR SPEAKERS
BetterCables.com is best for video and digital cables, if you ask me. Try Kimber Kable for speaker cables.
Help with my University Research Project
You would think that there would be some way of measuring the spectrum of a recording played back through different equipment/cables and determining if the differences correlated to differences in percieved quality of sound.
JPS Power Cords on Amps- who's using?
The only power cord I've tried that made any difference on an amp is the Electra Glide Fat Man.Several cords have made differences on my preamp/processor, but my amps (Parasound) didn't sound one bit different with anything I tried (Synergistic, M...
Cables, a case history of an Agnostic
Your results aren't unusual. I've had many cables that made little to no difference in my system at all. There are a few that actually produced positive results and I keep those. The problem is all the marketing hype that leads us to believe that ...
Don't try this at home hElP
I think your next cables will have locking connectors like the WBT RCA's!
power cord
I like the Electra Glide FatBoy silver a little bit more than the FatMan for preamps, but the Electra Glide FatMan is definitely the best cord for amps.
Is 500 hours of break in really nec.?
Cables "wear out" over time probably because your connectors and jacks are getting dirty. Also, the surfaces of the conductors oxidize and the metal loses conductivity over a long period of time. But this takes years, not months.
Cable advice
Kimber Kable makes awesome entry level cables! I have used them for many years and they have served me well. I'm now finally beginning to swap them out with the real esoteric (Electra Glide mostly) stuff, but only after I've got all the other gear...
Cables that cost more than the speakers?
I'll admit that I have some power cords that retail for more than many of my components. The total retail cost of my cables (power, interconnect, and speaker) probably equals the retail value of all my amps. I only paid a fraction of those prices,...
