Should we care if a piece of equipment comes from a pet-free, kid-free, smoke-free home?
While pets, smoke and kids are somewhat of a challenge, nothing is worse than that awful Febreze/fabric softener/dryer sheet stench. It permeates existence itself when used by its victims. Or incense or scented candles. I eagerly awaited a repl...
Seeking Budget CD Player Suggestions
A friend who still loves listening to CDs highly recommends this $399 player from Cambridge Audio: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_779AXC35/Cambridge-Audio-AXC35.html?tp=197 He almost has me convinced to buy one, even though I don't need a CD playe...
Beatles CD box set
Hello Jay, Is this the mono set you refer to, or an earlier edition. https://www.amazon.com/Beatles-Mono-Complete-Recordings/dp/B002BSHXJA   Crazy Bill, This looks like the box set of The Beatles in Mono I’m talking about. I bought mine...
Beatles CD box set
I bought both The Beatles in Mono and the U.S. albums. I much prefer the sound on the mono albums. If what you want are the US configurations, the set OP linked to has each disc in stereo and mono, and is preferable to the stereo-only box set.
Aggrivated tinnitus from speakers?
I’ve had tinnitus for 15 years. My audiologist said it probably came from taking gabapentin. So I stopped taking gabapentin. The hissing did not disappear. I had to give up listening to music via speakers eight feet across the room. The entire sp...

The greatest Pop song yet written and recorded.
vair68robert, I used to consider everything I listened to as "rock," which was where it was located in the record store bins. Along came the internet, and the Steve Hoffman forum, where I was informed that most of my favorites (the Beach Boys, Lin...

^ Spector was Spector. I'm glad he made all his music before he became what he became. I've never heard anything bad about Jack Nitsche, though.

Thank you, rpeluso, for the Madeleine Peyroux "Desperados." She does it right. I imagine you've heard her version of Leonard Cohen's "Dance Me to the End of Love" (perhaps a good choice, perhaps a bad, on Rosh Hashanah). https://www.youtube.com/w...

Thanks to whoever brought us the Father John Mundy song. I liked it a lot and want to listen to it, and some others, when I’m less busy than I am right now. What a wonderful list we have contributed to here. It’s hard for me to pick a favorite so...
What was your first record?
In 1963, my cousin Judy gave me her little RCA Victor 45 player. The first record I bought was "I Will Follow Him," by Little Peggy March. That Christmas, my parents bought me my first stereo, a suitcase model from Motorola, plus two Beach Boys al...

45 Singles You Just Had to Buy
I started buying records in 1963: the Beach Boys, Little Peggy March, the Four Seasons, the Ronettes and other Spector girl groups, Lesley Gore, etc. They were all 45s until December, as all I had was an RCA 45 player. That Christmas, my parents b...
Advice on how to liquidate system
I got tinnitus in 1998, and listening to music is different now. I no longer enjoy listening intently to speakers placed eight feet across the room. It sounds as if the hiss (high-pitched) takes up the entire space between speaker and ear/brain. ...
