Silverline Face-off: Sonatina II vs 17.5
Wow, glad I didn't place that bet! I guess you've made a decision.
Silverline Face-off: Sonatina II vs 17.5
What to keep? Apples vs oranges.Exactly. They're both great choices, but excel in different ways. I have to say, the SR17's do look like little sculptures the way their designed - especially in the rosewood finish (my personal favorite). Great cho...
vintage 6BQ5/EL-84 amp/klipsch speakers
If you are going for a vintage amp I would just make sure that it has been well-restored. Capacitors wear out and, though a older unit may work well initially, if it is untouched you may be looking at an eventual repair. That said, the combination...
Budget integrated ideas: budget $650
Used Rega Mira 3, or Portal Panache if you're lucky enough to find one at that price.
Silverline Face-off: Sonatina II vs 17.5
Hi Art - Yep, I'd agree, sub off. Mine were the Sonatina I's so did not have the same drivers. It's been way too many years at this point to comment on the SR17 version differences. You might try looking at the archives of my input on them. I seem...
Technics SP-10 Tonearm Pod instead of Plinth/Base
The plinth Albert Porter had a hand in developing for the SP10 is gorgeous. He may have sold through all of them, but you can always give him a try. I'm not sure if he's having more made. They ain't cheap, as you can guess from the pics....but, up...
Silverline Face-off: Sonatina II vs 17.5
Art - I've had the three previous versions of the SR17, as well as the Sonatina I, so I can hazard a guess. As far as imaging the SR17's will should be a clear winner from my experience. Nothing disappears like them. I'm going to assume you're put...
Looking for New Speakers - Suggestions
Amps - Bryston SST, Lexicon LX-7, Anthem MCA-20, Krell KAV-300iYou may have lots of gear, but it's all solid state, all muscle amps. I would definitely not pair any of those with Khorns or Lascalas so if your impressions were with those kinds of a...
Looking for New Speakers - Suggestions
What's the rest of your system, particularly your amp? Budget? The answer to those may get you more specific responses.Just in general, nothing is as fast and dynamic as horns that I've heard. Maggies certainly wouldn't be my choice. I've listened...
Need Media Storage Racks/Shelving
They're not cheap, but I like CanAm storage for my CD's. Very sturdy. Clean design. Stackable/expandable, and holds a lot of media in a relatively small space. Not for everyone, but certainly an option to consider.
1k used speaker all rounder
jax2's suggestion about Galante seems appropriate as I have heard they sound similar to Tannoy. I think that they use a Radian driver. Yes, they do use Radian drivers, 4est. There's currently a Galante Symphony (between Rhapsody and Buckingham) f...
Class-D or switching amps, any opinions on??
I'd also look at Rowland and Bel Canto's latest. I had the older Bel Canto 1000's for a while and they were very enjoyable, though I prefer other topologies ultimately. I'd have to agree with Bill's general sentiment in pointing out the Class D re...
DVD as transport
I've done no comparisons of the brands you mention, but do have an Oppo 983H, which offers superb up-sampled DVD images and a pretty good analog output (though I would not rely on the audio out as a reference by any means). You can find them used ...
Okay, Classe CA 2200 or and Ayre V -5xe amps
I've listened at length to the V5Xe, in my own system for a week, and then in Peter_S's system, as well as in one other system. I was very taken with the sound and would also never have thought it to be on the aggressive side. Very well balanced a...
1k used speaker all rounder
I'll second Coincident, but can't think of any that you'll likely find for $1k. Superb speakers with SET (I also used 8 watt 300B's for a while), and also work brilliantly with the SS Modwright KWA 150 I'm currently using. What I found in comparin...
