Why are there so many Mac users?
"The new OS for both platforms requires more RAM, more HD free space and more processor power than ever (even though streaming music is not really processor/memory intensive)."No, new Snow Leopard requires 100MB less disk space than Leopard. Also ...
Why are there so many Mac users?
Even though I have owned Macs from the beginning, it was Amarra, Weiss, and the use of Firewire that achieved a level of performance that I have not heard in any other digital. I just think it is ridiculous that USB is being used. I'm pretty sure ...
Speakes for SET amp
Nakonawala, have a listen to the Avantgarde-Acoustic Uno G2. Hmmm, isn't that a $27K speaker? If you are getting into the realms of big German-horns don't miss Acapella for another price leap. In the two shows I've listened to both extensively I w...
Why are there so many Mac users?
Third by most credible sources the MAC platform is not more reliable than a PC. From a hardware standpoint there is nothing in it. The data is messy enough that a meaningful conclusion is frankly difficult. Bottom line on reliability is that a goo...
Why are there so many Mac users?
Could I rip with EAC on the PC, store the files on an extarnal HD, and have the Mac play the tunes?Someone correct me here if I'm wrong: You can rip using EAC, but you would then have to convert the files (I think from FLAC) to an iTunes-recogniza...
Why are there so many Mac users?
Mac provides a far more stable, user-friendly platform. The OS is more reliable (10.5.x ). iTunes is native to the OS. MacMini provides a quiet, reliable, proven piece of hardware to run your music library from. Setup of wireless interfacing as we...

How about units that play BOTH hp and lp headphones?Sorry, don't know what you mean..what are hp and lp headphones? Are you talking about amps with variable gain, or two jacks with different gain?
Speakes for SET amp
Check with member, Tvad, on the Audio Note speakers. He just recently got a pair, I think. I don't know what amps he's using with them. He has plenty of experience to give you some perspective. I'm not sure how his taste in music crosses over with...
A home for my cans
I don't think any of the DAC/headphone combo's (Grace, Benchmark, TADAC, Apogee, etc.) are going to equal the output of a top-flight headphone amp...or even the HP output on the conventional amps I mentioned (those where attention is actually paid...
A home for my cans
If you were solely interested in headphones, CanJam 2010 is in Chicago, June 5-6. RMAF is definitely worth attending if you are in the market for new gear, or just want to socialize with like-minded folks on an Audiophile tangent. I don't know wha...
Desktop speaker placement - difficult situation
No I have not heard the Mirages so cannot compare. My only reason for suggesting they may be similar was that they are omnidirectional like the Ohm's. Other than that, I have no idea how they compare. I love the Ohm Minis though. Great speakers fo...

Zu, Klipsch, Coincident... All very different,Definitely very very different. I tried a pair of Zu Definitions in three different systems in my own home for a week and heard them again in two other friend's systems. Absolutely hated them, includin...
SET Recommendation
If you can find a used pair of Wright 3.5 amps (2a3 based SET) that would be another good option. You do realize that the speakers you pair an amp like this can make or break it. That interface is critical.

Any thoughts on tube vs ss?Sure. I used to have a more myopic viewpoint on that topic, but the more I hear great implementation of both topologies, the more I believe both have tremendous potential. There's no right answer there. I'd stress that y...

I'm loving my Woo WA6SE (maxed out). It's got plenty of drive and should easily handle the cans you have, but if you need a preamp out you'd need to go to one of his other amps (I think the WA2 is a pre as well, while the WA5 doubles as an amp to ...
