Tubes and microphonics Just one clarification Pablo - The Siemens I liked best were the E88CCa. They are not the same as the E88CC. You can see the entire range of various brands and pricing here to give you some idea of the relative price range. I never heard the Valvo...

Tubes and microphonics I could be wrong but, I don't think the 6H30s can be used as direct replacements for the 6922s without some adjustment. You are quite right, my bad. It is a 6H23 that I was thinking of. Thanks for picking out the mistake.Marco
Tubes and microphonics George - Unfortunately, yes, they are quite expensive and sometimes counterfitted or sold in less than desirable condition for large coin. If you go that route definitely go with a reputable resource. Expect to pay $75-150/tube (crazy!). Alternati...
White Noise? I'm not positive, but I think the "standby" in your Cary may be the same as a "Mute" which means no signal at all is passing out of the pre to the amps. Puzzling though about the Classe SS preamp making the same noise as that eliminates a tube or ...
Tubes and microphonics Sorry George, no experience with that specific tube that I can recall. Mostly compared the German tubes in that family. My favorites in the application I was using them in were the Siemens CCa's.Marco
Audio using home computer Let me see if I can put it all together in one post for you: If you are looking to improve the sound, first off you should be ripping files in either a lossless or an exact-duplicate file convention. EAC, WAV, and or Apple Lossless are a few. Ripp...
Tubes and microphonics Pablo - the 6922/E88CC family are very microphonic, as you probably know. You may want to try some tube dampers to help out with that. I've used Herbie's and Mapleshade and either works very well. Tubes in preamps are usually very sensitive to vib...
White Noise? I'd suspect one of the tubes in your Cary may be the culprit. If the preamp is off with the amps on does the noise still occur? If not look to the preamp and the tubes therein. Also consider that the noise may have occured before moving the system...
Does having an object inbetween the speakers bad? As this thread might indicate as it has progressed, the larger the better. If you have the room I'd recommend putting a small tugboat in between your speakers. If space is an issue, perhaps a piece of farm machinery like a thresher or a combine. E...
BEST monitor speaker with a 90db senitivity rating I never said this thread was being used to select a pair of speakers. But if I was, what would you say if my amplification was a 7 watt tube amp?I'll take it for granted that this may be a question you want input on from more than one person. In ...
Is live reproduction the goal of audio? Cdc - I enjoyed reading your System description and evolution! A great illustration of how the actual range of what can provide enjoyment in this hobby is vast, and that the magic is in the enjoyment itself, and not in how well it fits within some...
BEST monitor speaker with a 90db senitivity rating Silverline SR-17. I believe the current version is rated at 90db. If it is anything like the previous versions (I've owned versions I, II, and (currently) III) it should be on your short list. The previous versions, btw, are rated at 89db, just sh...
Is live reproduction the goal of audio? So, we have the real definition of an audiophile; No, actually the definition you proposed doesn't even come close. But if you did look up the actual definition you may find a more cut and dry answer to your question. The definition in Meriam-Webste...
Is live reproduction the goal of audio? I 'm not telling you what you should like guys. I'm telling you should have fun and enjoy your systems . Just don't call it audiophile. It has a definite definition that's all I am saying. You have what is called lifestyle systems. Your living roo... |
