what is more popular silver or black face plates
I like my components like I like my wheels:  beautiful and shiny, but not too shiny like chrome.  Black is too muted and easy to lose sight of. I think the rest of the room and furniture matter, too, especially regarding wood and finish choices. ...

***champagne*** Beautiful and different 🙂
Question about high current amps versus "not high current amps"
@dlevi67 that was a good summary from an engineering perspective, and a good introduction to Ohm's Law, which is exactly how I learned from other engineers (fellows) when first designing amps and speaker systems as a hobbyist. The others came in ...
Good preamp for under $300
There are terrific rebuild services on eBay.  I sent my Pioneer Spec to a Vietnamese electronics engineer in Brooklyn and he was nothing short of spectacular.  I think he advertises there, Etsy, and other similar sites
After 20 years, in the market for a power amp
Anything John Curl touches is phenomenal, from the vintage HCA-2200ii to the newer JCs at Parasound.   The JCs surpass the older HCAs unless you're handy with a soldering iron 🙂

I love Parasound but will also submit a vote for the Michi S5 -- outstanding amplifier
Budget integrated amp?
I have the Rotel RA-1592 and cannot say enough great things about it.  I'm no golden ear, but to me it sounds better than integrateds costing twice or thrice as much!
Only two tracks to test your system, forever!
The best track to test any system comes from Tchaikovsky ’s Nutcracker Suite -- the pas de deux after they’ve come out of the forest. Incredible track. Most CDs have this directly mastered from digital: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YR5USHu6D6U ...
Where is Geoff Kait???😢
@duckworp  I've never been to AA until you all mentioned it.  It's definitely giving me flashbacks of Netscape and Windows 3.11...
Where is Geoff Kait???😢
He always cracked me up and reminds me a lot of some of my coworkers.  You know the ones that you could tell dropped acid in the 60s/70s 😂. I know some here took it personally and that's understandable.  Not everyone is tuned in to everyone else'...
CDs And Green Markers. Please Don’t Laugh.
@tweak1 is that you, Geoff Kait???   If so, we've seriously missed you!
Lemons are an actual thing in high-end audio
I've run into the exact same thing with components that reviewed very well.  In fact, one component was very well designed and its components were beautiful, perfectly isolated stages, top grade semis.  I'm a manufacturing engineer and used to wor...
Do Audiophile Cables Matter? Here's PROOF!
I've noticed a statistically significant difference in the 2 cable camps:1. naysayers are almost always engineers, either professionally or via years of hands-on experience in labs, studios, etc.  They understand intrinsically the scientific metho...
Cd disc changers.
sorry for necrojacking this thread but I have to tell you:  the Philips CDC875 is a terrific changer and one of the only changers with the famous TDA1541A DAC (I opened mine to verify and it's the S1 version of TDA1541A).Some say "no changer sound...
Preamp: Parasound P5 vs Rotel RC1590
Hi Deniz,Apologies in advance for necro-jacking this thread but I just wanted to say "thank you" for the details in this write-up.  I've been testing several Rotel preamps, too, as well as Parasound here in the states.I have the RC-1570 and it's a...
