Good musical HT AV/Receiver
Thanks for the inputs.I've always thought Marantz made good gear and the recent reviews for the 5005 and 6005 sound very supportive.I understand that Marantz and Denon are under the same corp and use some of the same components.Any opinions on Mar...
PC to Tube Pre/Amp
The Music Bridge cost $89. I know DAC's can go for thousands but I don't need that level of capability or audiophileness. Maybe $200-400 new or used. Otherwise I would seek another method. Thanks for the assistance.
PC to Tube Pre/Amp
Thanks Timberpitch. Do you recommend a good and inexpensive DAC? I was quite happy with the sound from the Music Bridge as I don't believe it lowered the fidelity of the files, just played them as is and the Pre did the conditioning.
AC Power Between Amp and Preamp
I did switch the power set-up to bypass the pre-amp and actually got a hum! Switched it back and was fine.I'd be very surprised if there would be a noticable increase in sound quality by powering the amp differently. I am more concerned about too ...
Outdoor Speaker Recommendation
Thanks. I'll see if I can find both the Niles and Pyle speakers to demo.I do think I want the under-eave style. I heard some Boston Acoustic ones over the week-end at a friends house on the beach and they too sounded excellent.
Best bookshelf monitor under $1000 new or used.
All good responses. I have a pair of Focal Chorus 806V's that are some of their smaller "bookshelf" speakers and love them. I also play lossless music- FLAC/SHN off my hardrive through a Linksys Music Bridge and it works excellent. My amp is an an...
Wireless Computer Speakers
Thanks, that's my issue- too many wires and ac adapters. I'd like to cut down the clutter and fire hazards!
Balance not fading speaker
Installed RCA gold plated plug-in splitters. The solid type with two outputs, no wires. Works very well. Not sure if there's much defference in sound and it's kind of a pain to easily switch out between the different set-ups.Will go with this for ...
Balance not fading speaker
Yes Carver states that the sub passive crossover is "keeping" the less than 70hz signals and sending the rest to the amp. They also state that this is the preferred method if there's no LFE Output, using smaller speakers (Focal Chorus) and tube am...
Balance not fading speaker
Think I got it. Reviewed the Carver sub guide and a third option is to go from the pre out to the sub line in, sub line out to the amp. The higher frequencies pass through to the amp and main speakers while just the low freq is processed by the su...
Balance not fading speaker
No Y cables but they were recommended as an option on an earlier thread I previously started . One of the responses I received was:"Right, you can't use the 'tape out' connections because they're not controlled by the volume control on the preamp,...
Balance not fading speaker
Ckoffend-You are correct, when I disconnect the sub(Bob Carver Dominator)the correct balance adjustment returns. My only concern is that there is no negative effect on the music playback or the equipment. Before doing this hook-up I talked with bot...
Dedicated power and outlets
Thanks Metralla, will do the test.Is it wrong to run the amp into the switched outlet port of the pre-amp? I thought that's why it was built that way ( Audio Research) so it would power-up with the pre?You suggest that all the components should ha...
Dedicated power and outlets
One last thing. While debating which power conditioner to use I've also read where some prefer plugging their amps directly into the dedicated outlet- no surge protection or anything. They feel with the dedicated line there is no need for power co...
One Subwoofer for 2 systems?
Garry-Sounds like the reason you have the Y-wire is because you have two subs?Mine would have direct speaker wires from my amp L&R outputs to the sub, as it does now, and then use a single line level subwoofer RCA connector from the A/V receiv...
