Looking for a great front ported bookshelp speaker recommendation
+1 for ATCs , @soux advice, and avoiding ported speakers in this case. I have ATC SCM7’s that sit on a dresser (decoupled by rubber/wood laminates) that sound great.
Looking for 5AR4 rectifier tube most like solid state
Sorry, base solidity
Looking for 5AR4 rectifier tube most like solid state
I have the Cary SLP05 with ultimate upgrade as well but don’t suffer what you are describing. I find that the Raytheon VT231’s in the gain stages gives the best sense of best solidity. To be honest, I have struggled with understanding this rhythm ...
Upgrading to a stand alone DAC
I would follow @ghdprentice’s advice and get a Schiit Yggdrasil+. But you can get a new one, the “GSII” or Garage Special II, for just $1699. This differs only from the regular version because it has a first generation sound card and older USB inp...
Marantz 3300 - Fanboy issues, buyer beware.....
I am quite familiar with the Marantz 3300/3600/3800 preamps, and owned a Marantz Model 7 tube preamp for nearly 30 years. I also owned a Hafler preamp. A new Schiit Saga blows all of them out of the park sonically. I use a Sylvania Bad Boy 6SN7GT...
Preamp suggestions for Atma-Sphere Class D Monoblocks
I own a CarySLP 05 with ultimate upgrade. Bought it used a few years ago in pristine condition for $4300. It has a decent headphone amp. I’ve had great fun tube rolling and my current setup uses Raytheon VT231’s in the gain stages and CBS Hytron 5...
Is the idea of audiophile listening a dying concept as boomers die off?
When I compare what’s available now (streaming Quboz hi res files) compared to what I did in the 1970’s (vinyl over an Ariston RD11s with Grace 707 arm and a hsnd-picked Sonus Blue cartridge), it’s clear that NOW is the golden time! My Aurender N1...
Plugging rear ports of "bookshelf" speakers?
Hence why I prefer sealed designs. Easy to place them in my bedroom system- I put my ATC 7’s on cork and rubber feet directly on my 72” low dresser about a foot from the wall, and they image really well with no bloat in the bass.
McIntosh tube upgrade - worthwhile?

Beautiful Colored Tube Preamp ($10k budget) to Pair w/ Very Accurate Monitors (PSI A25M)
Cary SLP05!
Non-fatiguing speakers in $10K range?
Newer generation ATC Entry level series are a big YES. Non-fatiguing. The key is to get the ATC’s with the ATC-made tweeter, not the ones made with the ferry-fluid based ScanSpeak tweeters. Ie, ATC SCM 40v2, not ATC SCM35, or earlier ATC SCM20’s.
Eversolo or Aurender: Options and Opinions
$1100- import duties likely to not increase that toomuch! I was looking at CanuckAudioMart, which I believe owns USAudioMart. Just an example.   For fun, from the website https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/dte-acl/est-cal-eng.html , I est...

Eversolo or Aurender: Options and Opinions
I see lots of Aurender N100H’s on various sites (US Audio Mart, Audiogon, etc.), usually for $1200 or so. There are a few new ones every month. As a N100H owner, I highly recommend them at this price level.
Focal v Wilson
I would look at the ATC SCM40 v2. They just had the price dropped to $6K a pair from $8K, and compete with both yet with a far smoother tweeter. I think they would be a better match to your amp. They are also easy to drive and place in a room, as ...
