Anyone tried the Shunyata Venom PC? It's an inexpensive, very flexible alternative to a stock cable. Whether you'll hear a positive difference over stock is questionable. Shunyata's higher line VX cables are the best for digital sources (Taipan is an excellent choice) and I'm more c...
Eastern Electric Mini Max vs AE-3 DJH preamps The DJH preamp is a giant killer! It is dead quiet, has a smooth top end that goes on forever and a bottom end you have to experience to believe. I can honestly think of nothing negative to say about this little gem. Do yourself a favor and buy on...
Musical Fidelity A5 CD-Player Powercord proposal Shunyata VX cables can not be beat for digital gear, I believe. But, they are very pricey -- try a diamondback ($199USD new) & see if you like what you hear. You can always upgrade to a Taipan or Python from there.
Taipan Alpha vs Taipan Helix Alpha While I am not familiar with Audience cables, the Shunyata Helix cables will make a 360 degree bend in about 14" diameter
Taipan Alpha vs Taipan Helix Alpha From what I have experienced, the new Helix series gives you significantly 'more' of what the Pacesetter cables were capable of. The Helix cables, while quite fat, are some of the most flexible power cables around. Additionally, from what I unders...
speakers for low listening levels/tube amp I second the Triangle ES line since you will be pushing them with EL34 output tubes. Triangles absolutely love this particular tube and don't require alot of power to sound great. Triangles are a bit lean on bass, but sound fabulous on acoustic mu...

Arcam CD73t or Rega Planet 2000 I have owned both players at various times: they are both truly excellent. If you could swing it, purchase both and sell the one you care for least -- I doubt you would lose any money here.Sonically, the Planet is very, very smooth and laid back. ...
Most neutral speaker cable for less than $5 a foot try Mapleshade's Golden Parallel cable. $215 for a 30' pair. Their cables do exactly what Mapleshade says they do, particularily better transparency and cleaner bass -- if you don't like them, send them back within 30 days.
Best cd player for under $800.00 personally, I think the Arcam CD73 and Rega Planet (recently discontinued) are the best entry level players. The Planet has a very smooth and engaging sound, not as detailed as the Arcam though.
Why should some speakers need a big room? How the room interacts with a speaker defines that particular speakers sound. Imagine playing your stereo outdoors in the middle of a public park versus in an area with boundaries (i.e. living room walls), the speakers will not sound the same in t...
Leads on mid-1960's Siemens NOS CCa 6922 tubes Upscale Audio has them starting at $250 ea. This is one of the best places to buy tubes from. Sometimes the prices are not the best but the quality and reliability is.
Help choose a power amp Have you considered biamping your VT2's? Perhaps use the receiver for the mids/highs and a small amp for the bass, preferably one with gain controls so you could tailor the sound to your liking. I personally believe 80 watts is plenty for a semi-e...
optical or coaxial ? your thoughts on Monster Generally, coaxial connection is preferred over toslink because of digital jitter concerns. I personally have not heard differences switching between the two though.Monster produces good product and fantastic marketing, which helps explain the hig...
Like my current gear, only better... How about a Rega Planet new (recently discontinued, good deals may be available!) and a SimAudio I-3 integrated used? SimAudio carries a ten year manufacturers warranty, not sure if that carries over to non-original owner though. |
