F I M Speaker Cables
Well put Mikeam, I haven't heard of this before. I doubt that there is little if any horizontal deflection with my equipment stands. I can attest that I have a system full of FIM Gold cables, along with JM Labs for the past 19 to 20 months without...
Amp recommendations to drive Martin Logan Prodigy?
Tweekerman,Certain tube amps deliver much more dynamics, or "slam" and "reserve power" as you call it, than the amplifiers you mention. Kirk930 mentioned one brand, Tube Research. They cost WAY more than the pathos that you mention, but I will sug...
Benz Ruby 2 vs. Van Den Hul Frog
van den Hul does indeed make great sounding cartridges, yet as you've witnessed, their service is the worst in the industry. It is a real shame, their Tube Research Copper Hopper CHA Grasshopper is a favorite. It's no wonder that there has been mu...
FIM gold vs NBS Statement ?
While I don't own any Rowland gear, I have heard that the FIM/Rowland combo is a great one. You may wish to contact Gary and Cindy Kerr at The Audio Gallery in Lake Oswego, Oregon for their input. They sell FIM, NBS and Rowland. Their number is (5...
Who has tried all these power cords?
Have you tried the FIM Gold, Slawney?
VPI cleaning fluid and fungus
Switch brands, jt 101. The Record Research Labs cleaner has never done anything like this to me in the years that I've used it, and it does a better job. Check with your local dealer or buy on-line at www.elusivedisc.com
Reviewing the Reviewers
After reading Treljas' first post here, I must agree 100%. I hate to see him take so much hate-mail for stating his opinion. For the record, I've been in CES showrooms where highly accredited reveiwers didn't realise that the tweeter section on on...
Record-playing Rituals?
I'm with Albert, Record Research is the best, and I've tried them all. I especially like the LP#9 stylus cleaner, what a difference it makes.
Jazz and the Hammond B
Also try Fred Jackson, "Hootin' and Tootin' ", on Blue Note BLP-4094, or CD equivalent. Earl Van Dyke played a Hammond B on that session, I believe.
Counterpoint SA-3.1 and 5.1
Good enough, I was just interested in how good they were after the $2K modification. Some lower priced gear actually does sound much better than those with the high price tag.
Counterpoint SA-3.1 and 5.1
How will the modified SA-3.1 compare to one of the $10,000.00 pre-amps?
Counterpoint SA-3.1 and 5.1
So the up-grades consist of parts swapping only?
Changing Amps?? Are you Sure??
If the new equipment is truly better, then it is worth considering. However, it has seemed that the audio press has had its' "flavor of the month club" for quite some time, overly promoting products that really aren't breakthrough products. I beli...
How to reduce CD Transport noise?
No Khokugo, Soundcoat is a 1/8 inch thick vibration reducing sheet with adhesive on one side, used where vibration damping is wanted/desireable. It can be used on the side and bottom panels as well. Many of us in the late 1980's used this stuff to...
How to reduce CD Transport noise?
How about a sheet of Soundcoat on the under the top cover, in areas where there is clearance? (Soundcoat is a vibration/sound dampening sheet which is about 1/8 inch thick). I believe Michael Percy sells the stuff.
