Preowned Wilson Audio Chicago Dealer
Reading this makes me miss Audio Consultants (Evanston, IL (and Libertyville, Hinsdale, and Chicago, IL)) and Simon all the more.
The first system you had that was "high end/audiophile", by you standards

Your favorite audio cartoons
This makes smile, and feel sad at the same time.  I loved the Charles Rodrigues cartoons in Stereo Review.  It was one of the things that kept me a subscriber (along with the record reviews).  I miss both.
turntable upgrade?
I have a Thorens TD-166 MKII, with a Thorens TP-11 MKII tonearm (TP 62 armwand and non-removable headshell), as well. I bought it (with my parents help) while in high school (circa 1977). I was using the same Signet cartridge before mothballing th...

cartridge recommendation for Thorens TD166 MKII
I have the same turntable. I am using an Ortofon 2M Bronze (MM) Verso cartridge. The stylus is a nude fineline and is detailed and pleasing. If you go this route, make sure to buy the Verso version, which is specifically designed for Thorens-style...
For a few dollars more
Hhhmmmm.  No reference to Clint's late-Cold War classic "Firefox."
On the hunt for the "just right" turntable lamp-ideas, and where to find 'em?
I use this:https://www.amazon.com/Brivation-Portable-Gooseneck-Rechargeable-Brightness/dp/B078JV9Q5N/ref=sr_1_6...Clips to shelf, USB rechargeable battery (so no hum on your system), flexible neck so you can put light where you want it, and dimmable.
The longest you have owned any gear?
My Thorens TD-166 MKII turntable that I bought new in 1977 while in high school.  I had it refurbished in 2019.  I use it almost daily.
Just an old fans memory lane. Chicago bands from the sixties...
Muddy Waters (saw him at the First National Bank Plaza and at Chicago Fest on Navy Pier).
What's the best and/or favorite piece of equipment you've owned? And do you still own it?
It is not my best component, but it’s my favorite component, largely out of nostalgia: My Thorens TD166 MKII turntable. I still own it and use it. I bought it (with my parents’ help) in 1977 or 1978, at Audio Consultants in Evanston, Illinois, whi...
Who are your three favorite female singers?
@whatjd. I think a VERY good comparison. But there are so many great female vocalists, and my favorites vary over time.Except Donna Jean.
