Would a Miniwatt N3 be enough to move my speakers?
Hello,That amp/speaker combination is probably marginal at best. 1 watt gives 92 dB. 2 watts gives 95 dB. We would need 4 watts to get to 98 dB which we do not have. We also do not have any additional capacity for "headroom". If the speakers drop ...
Should I upgrade DAC, speaker cables, ICs, or PCs?
Hello,I would go for the CDP. The sound never comes out better than it goes in. I have a Shanling CD T-100 - around $750 used. The analog output has a nice mellow sound, unlike many CD players that tend to be somewhat on the bright side. If you pu...
Is it proper to leave amp on all the time?
Some S/S amps require significant warm-up time, say on the order of 24 hours. This is probably the reason for the dealer's recommendation. As far as the life of the amp, it will probably increase it owing fewer tunr-on time current surges.
biamping question
tubes on top. S/S on the bottom.
finding a solid state amp to replace a tube amp
Bel Canto eVo should be on your short list. I replaced a tube amp with an eVo. Needed more power, but did not have the budget for high-powered tube. Including both tube and SS, the eVo has turned out to be one of my favorites.
Amplifier progression and change
I do not think they make an integrated but check out Bel Canto's eVo series. They ae magic. And BTW different technology from that of 35 years ago and other of today's SS amps for that matter.
802d for a 10x13 room, 8ft ceiling - am I nuts?
My room is roughly the same size as yours. It is 0.5'shorter and 0.5' wider. I agree with James63.In small rooms 40 cps is the lower limit. Any thing below that will over-power the room. Bass will likely be boomy at some frequencies.I would not be...
Tube or Solid State
Tvad: Fair enough. From 95 dB the tube amp has the headroom you suggest. Newbee: Your statement about the differences between the 2 is a bit of over simplification. I do not want to turn this into another endless debate on tubes vs SS. You are obv...
Tube or Solid State
I believe the MC2102 is 100 wpc and the MC402 is 400 wpc. The Ushers are around 89dB @ 8 ohm. So 1 watt = 89dB, 2 = 92dB, 4 = 95dB, 8 = 98 dB, 16 = 101 dB and so forth. Once we get north of 100dB, I have to ask how loud is loud enough? An increase...
Looking for better Power Conditioner than my Tice
Hello,I have used the PS Audio Premier. Put my Wadia 850 into another level.Presently I am using a Transcendent Power Supply. It put my Shanling Audio CD-T100 into orbit. My experience has been that the CDP benefits mostly from cleaner power. I wo...
Newbie question - equipment with good resale value
Good question. I have been playing the A'gon buy and try game now for a few years. First, you will need a membership to tbe A'gon Bluebook. The price graphs there will answer the question you raise. I tend to avoid items with minimal transction ac...
Cable confusion and questions.
Those who make their living selling I/C would have you believe that moving a signal is problematic. This just simply is not true. Any cable you try will a) not make any difference that you hear (most likely), b) sound worst that what you had befor...

How do you chose speakers based on room size?
As has already been stated, small rooms are problematic. The smaller the room, the more important that acoustic treatments become.A few rules:The listening position always needs to be at least 18" from the wall behind. Less than that, and the low ...
Equipment setup
I second the acoustical room treatment suggestion.I also have a small room -- 10.5 by 12.5. I have been working with it now for 2 years. Small rooms have special needs in terms of speakers and treatments. The Decware website has an excellent white ...
