Most hyped turntable, tonearm, and cartridge?
He thought it should cost $40K instead of $20K. I kid you not. They were from Asia somewhere and were trying to impress their friendsThx for response. I believe you. For some, what is important is how much they paid for. The more they pay, the les...
Reviews on JungSon amp/preamp combo: JA-1/JA-99C
Have you contacted the seller? Well, many Chinese sellers don’t stay in business long to take care of after service, so you may be out of luck. That’s I’m worrying about too. When I addressed the possible repair situation to the seller (Mr. Yong L...
Reviews on JungSon amp/preamp combo: JA-1/JA-99C
My Plinius SA102 eventually died (due to my stupid mistake) and I needed a new (temporary) amp. I have a few spare amps (Nakamichi, Mitsubishi, and AR) but they are far inferior to Plinius. Against millercarbon’s horrible experience with Jungson, ...
Most hyped turntable, tonearm, and cartridge?
Have you decided which turntable is most hyped? It’s always the one that the other guy likes, never your own. Not quite. Probably I did not use a correct term. When I used 'hyped', I meant by something that is excessively advertised, overly rev...
Most hyped turntable, tonearm, and cartridge?
Apologies for my ignorance on Technics DD turntables. I only knew that some of their high end models were good for DJ in dance club. Now I see that some of their high end models are as good as turntables can be.  lewm, Thanks for your suggestion ...
Most hyped turntable, tonearm, and cartridge?
Its not hype. Its in our blood. That may be true. A good analogy with Porsche 911. I’ve never driven 911, but I had a chance to sit on the passenger seat in mid 90s. The driver showed off a little bit (?), and I still cannot forget the exciting f...
Most hyped turntable, tonearm, and cartridge?
lewm,Thanks for your notice. You are right. I was not deliberately trolling, but I understand that it could be taken as trolling. Why did I ask? I was interested in hearing people’s opinion, not so much of fact (like measurement data on noise, hum,...
Most hyped turntable, tonearm, and cartridge?
I recently saw a new Garrard 301 (at $20K) and a new Thorens TD 124 (at $15K) . I thought the only reason why they decided to remake the vintage models at that hefty price is that there are demands. If there are such demands but if they are not as...
Help with Phono preamp suggestions!
I had a Whest 2.0 for several months. It was pretty good. Its MC was pretty good too. However, I moved to  Magi Phonomenal. It is a hand made point to point connection tube phono preamp with two MM inputs. To my ears, Magi sound better. Also I we...
What's wrong with classical music on vinyl?
I would also say that on the average classical albums have slightly more surface noise than rock/jazz albums. Worse yet, most classical albums have much wider dynamic range than rock/jazz albums, and even though they have the the same noise level,...
More power for moderate listening levels?
My Klipsch KLF 20 with 100Watts Denon receiver sounds better, more live and dynamic with electronic and dance music than my Gershman Grand Avant Garde powered by 125Watts Plinius SA 102. As someone suggested, a separate system for dance music may ...
A move from Harbeth to... Wilson?
I have C7-ES. I thought about upgrading to Wilson Watt Puppy which was (and still is) my dream speakers. I ended up choosing Gershman Grand Avant Garde. As I grow older, being able to move speakers around by myself was a concern, and Wilson was to...
Elf Super Helix Gold speaker cable
This post is over 10 years old, but I enjoyed reading it. I have both clear day double shotgun and elf gold helix. I can’t articulate as good as OP, but I would agree with the stated characteristics of those two cables.
What's your favorite boutique speaker maker
I'm curious as to why no one has mentioned Tyler Acoustics. Have any of you owned a pair of his speakers? There are very few reviews out there for them and I would like to hear what the Audiogon community thinks. Tyler speakers had been discuss...
Why so obsessed with bass?
If set up right, a little bit of added bass will make the music more full and ambient. Try to add a sub at the center and closer to your listening position if possible.
