New Magnepan 1.7 Owner I, just this weekend set up a new pair out of the box hooked up to a Mcintosh 6600 integrated. It was dynamic, smooth and not at all harsh. I can't not substantiate the claim of, "I am finding th sound thick(improved aftermuch placement efforts) a...
mcintosh 501's treble extension; yes or no? Ya know, I ended up with a pair of 275's strapped in mono, and those amps with the 3.6's are sublime. That is the amp/speaker combo I am running now.
mcintosh 501's treble extension; yes or no? Having had them on Maggie 3.6's, I would look elsewhere. I have several Mac pieces and am a Mac guy, but the 501's failed to impress me. I also had the 402, and that would be the amp I would give serious consideration to if it were me and you were...
Which One Amp for the Magnepan 3.6's? I currently use 2 Mcintosh MC 275's in mono and all I can say is it is sublime!! Taught bass, dynamics out the @@s, and "you are there experience" that has to be auditioned.
Will YBA Integre DT Match Harbeth Speakers Well? I would second the Calypso. Having had it and loved it. I only changed to try something different. It would be my go to pre if I were to change back. It is very clear and clean sounding and would compliment the Harbeths very nicely.
What amplifier for Harbeth HL-5? Talk to Gene Rubin out in Santa Barbara. He is a dealer for both and a nice guy. His site can be found by typing in "Gene Rubin Audio".
moving coil speaker for tubes Those amps should do well with just about any speaker; so long as the speakers are not terribly ineficient, or a very low ohm load.
Chinese equivalent to Sonus Faber? Mrtennis, I know that they are not the bargin that Maggies are, but the cabinets are most of the cost of box speakers. Bearing that in mind, all box speakers are over priced. No, we won't get into a box vs. panel speakers discussion, you see I own...
Cremona M worth it? I own the M's and drive them with MC 501's and single MC 275. Fantastic results with both. The MC 275 was a BIG suprise with regards as to how it handled the M's. It sounds way more powerful than it's 75 watts. Very close to the 501's, too close. ...
Chinese equivalent to Sonus Faber? Just pony up and buy the Sonus and be done with it. Or do I hear a little birdie saying........cheap,cheap,cheap.
Where do I learn more about audio stuff? I second Robert Harley's book. Good stuff in terms that we all understand.
Speakers for the ears, eyes, and for the decade I would drag my amp to a Sonus dealer. Sounds like you like the warm sound. I am willing to bet that the amp will mate well with the Sonus speakers.
Peachtree Nova , Dac 1 Pre, Bel Canto Dac 3? Scott,Issue 62 of HI FI plus(one issue back)has got a great review on a few outboard dacs. They liked the Cambridge Audio one alot, especially for the money. You may want to look into getting an outboard dac and running your digital media through ...
First Trip outside of Best Buy, a real newbie. Scott,Might I recommend a tubed integrated with a digital input on the back so you can put an Ipod or external dac to the amp. I would go with the Spendor S9's. Those speakers are very muscical and will fill the bill of long term quality, you shou...
?TT upgrade from most basic to next step-up / tube I had stunning results with a Michell tecnodec as my first table. VERY well built and easy to set up. Sounded sweet. I used and still use a Benz glider H. |
