Digital amp on IRS Beta??
I NEVER found a solid state amp that worked with the high/mid Beta columns. The low impedance of the speaker combined with the low output impedance of SS amps made the Betas much too bright. They could be tamed somewhat by covering the SEMITs and ...
Tube amp on the IRS Beta
I used ARC Classic 150s on my Betas. The 2 ohm impedance occurs at the very highest frequencies where little power is required. I also used a VT100 briefly with no problems.Jim in Dallas.
Tube DACs
Let me put in a third vote for the Dan Wright mod. The absolute truth mod of my XA-777ES surpassed the performance of my previous Sonic Frontiers P-3.
Any opinions on Bybee Purifiers installed in speak
I installed bybees at the positive terminal of all the drivers in my Hales T-8s. They seem to do all the right things after some break-in. The differences were not jaw dropping, but there was an improvement in depth and clarity. If I had it to do ...
Your Experience with Bryston 7BSST.....
Although I don't have experience with the 7BSST, I once owned the Betas and used a 4B NRB for the bass columns. It was OK, but I eventually replaced it with a QSC M3000a. I believe it produces enough current for 900W/ch into the Beta's 4 ohm imped...
What about the Hales Transcendence 5's
The T5 is a very musical speaker. I use a pair in my office system. Tried them at home in my large room, but preferred the T-8s at home. I also have 5 T-3s that I use for surround sound. The T-5 goes deeper than the T-3. I compared the T-5s to Dun...
Dan Wright "Absolute Truth" mod for SCD-1 / 777es
Can't comment on the SCD-1 or 777es. I DO have the full blown mod on my XA-777ES and highly recommend it if you can afford it. You might check out:http://www.harmonicdiscord.comModwright has a forum where the mods have been discussed.
At $2K for a new SACD player is the XA-777ES....
You might want to consider having Dan Wright (modwright.com) doing his Signature Truth mod to your SACD 1000. Cost is $1250 and includes an internal tube analog stage. This mod is sonicly very close to his Ultimate Truth mod of the XA-777ES. I hav...
Power Conditioner - balanced power hookup?
I have to second Sc53's recommendation. I bought the BP-2 from underwoodwally with upgraded silver wire, bybees, and auricaps. I'm running my entire home theater AND stereo through it. The stereo includes an ARC VT-200, Ref-1, Dan Wright modded XA...
How many hours can a DVD recorder record
My Phillips has 1 hr, 2 hr, 3 hr, and 4 hr modes. The 1 hr is a great picture, the 2 hour mode is somewhat below standard DVD quality, and the quality drops from there.
Review: Sony SC-D777es CD Player
I agree with Bigkidz on the improvement that is available over a stock Sony unit. In my case, I replaced a Krell DT-10 transport and Sonic Frontiers P-3 with the Sony SCD XA-777ES. The stock Sony was not nearly as clear, dynamic or involving as th...
AMPS- - Help ARC 200 or ARC Classic 150 or .....
Rwd,My VT-200 is the original with a tubed input stage. The Mark II has an FET input stage (I think). The VT-100_II which I owned previously was also a tube input stage. Rcprince is correct, the Classic 150 has a solid state input stage, but they ...
AMPS- - Help ARC 200 or ARC Classic 150 or .....
I used an M-300 MKII, essentially a Classic 150 to drive the top end of my Infinity Betas with great results. Unfortunately, the amps are a little long in the tooth and could begin having reliability problems. After sending one of my M-300s back t...
Audio research M 300 mkII vs Classic 150 triode,
You could buy the M300s, and later have them switched to triode operation by ARC. I had the M300s in triode driving the upper panels of my IRS Betas and they had more than enough power and sounded great!
What's the funniest or dumbest thing you did?
I had just gotten my M-300 back from Audio Research after weeks of no music. I was so anxious to hear it, I brought it in the house during a rainstorm (uncovered) and promptly plugged it in. Smoke, sparks, and back to ARC for 2 more weeks of no mu...
