I got around $2000 to play with....
Ideally you would audition the Onkyo amp vs the MF in your home (as with others you may be considering). You may be able to purchase one or both here used on Audiogon and play with them awhile and sell the one you least prefer at little to no loss...

The new Onkyo Class D integrated (I forget the model #) $600 new and have seen for $400 used, a used Denon 2910 (a steal at current prices), a pair of Totem or Dynaudio monitors (used of course)and add some decent budget cables. Money left over. D...
How do you negotiate a cure for wrong audio view
Chashmal,I do not mean to be unsympathetic but these types of discussions have been on this forum ad nauseam. There is music and there is the pursuit of the "absolute reproduced sound." It is a journey where we never reach our final destination. H...

How do you negotiate a cure for wrong audio view
With all due respect, get over yourself. You listen to music for enjoyment. You listen through gear which reproduces it. By the nature of the process there are differences in the reproduction which are interesting. It is ok to be interested in the...

Tube Rolling for TAD-150
Fishboat,Siemans, No. Sylvanias, yes (may have been double micas though). I would have to dig to make sure. The Sylvanias I thought were very good. Nice detail but a little less body than the Telefunkens to my ears. But, I could have lived with th...
Tube Rolling for TAD-150
I really liked the GTs. But they were a little more "in your face" than the Telefunkens. But, the differences are not stark, just noticeable. IMHO the GTs have been a little better suited to rock but I listen to mostly Jazz and vocals. The Telefun...
Tube tester recommendations
When you say "just getting into tubes" what do you mean? Also, where do you want to go? Do you want to roll tubes? Do you want to experiment with various pieces of tube gear? Do you have a need to match tubes? I have two tubed power amps and two t...
Tube Rolling for TAD-150
I have two shoe boxes full of input tubes I have rolled into the 150. I got plum obsessed with it for a while. I have now had Telefunken 12au7s in there for over a year. To my ears I have found nothing that sounds better. I have tried Bugle Boys, ...
Herbie Hancock-Maiden Voyage
Thank you all for your input. I have listened to some of his fusion (not much though) which did not appeal to me, that does not mean I would dismiss all of it. In general, I am not a fan of fusion. I have no idea of the chronology of his recording...
Speakers for old 70s Marantz receiver?
Find a pair of Sound Dynamics 300Ti. They do not come up for sale very often but you do see them here occasionally and on ebay. I still have a pair in a third system with a NAD 701 receiver and they sound great. One of Harry Pearson's of TAS all t...
used pre
I would put a Forte F44 on my short list. I believe it has all the features you are looking for. I don't think you could do better for the money. To my ears it is a very nice sounding pre. I believe it would better the previous ones you have tried...
TT mat suggestions...
Again, thank you all for your responses. I have ordered an Achromat-5mm. We will see what happens.
