Jena Labs Model One Fundamental Power Cords I spent a few hours experimenting with them with and without the Fundamental 6.1. I had to go back for the first few times, because the differences weren't obvious initially, but after a few times of swapping cables I think I have a hold on it. In...
Best digital cable to audition? I second the Marigo 5.7. I had the Apparition 5.6, and it was easily the best digital cable I'd ever heard, besting MANY digital cables, including the Transparent Reference. I would think the 5.7 is even better.
Jena Labs Model One Fundamental Power Cords Nice review, Mark, even if you're hesitant to call it a review. There's not much more I can add to your and Dan's comments other than that, in my system, they made the biggest difference with the VR-9s. The bass just exploded, but without becoming...
The song you just cant stop playing??? "Shadow in the Way"--what a way to end an album. A serious scorcher, to be sure, and it sounds like they had a blast in the studio making it.
Are the Von Schweikert VR-4JRs really all that? The temptation, of course, is always there to keep looking--I've done that with every single component I've ever owned. But at some point, you've got to become confident in the homework and research you've done and pull the switch. I used to own t...
BAT VK-300x for Von Schweikert VR4-JRs? I run the 300x with my VR-4 Gen III HSEs, and they do a really nice job. Great detail from the 6H30 tubes, and a nice warm, inviting sound. IMHO a great match for the Jrs.
Best Jazz and Rock & Roll HDCD CDs Can't tell you about jazz, since I don't listen to it, but for rock the standouts in my mind are:Stephen Stills: "Manassas"Buffalo Springfield: "Again"Grateful Dead remastersCars: Candy-ORoxy Music remastersNeil Young: latter-day albumsMy mind is ...
Would you buy speakers with out first listening ? I've bought my last three speakers without hearing them--and haven't been disappointed yet. I have a close relationship with my dealer, and we both have similar listening preferences, so that's a BIG plus. Always buy from a dealer you can trust--a...
Review of Dartzeel NHB-108 Amplifier Tab110:From the look of it, any Merlin speaker should be a pretty benign load. The specs listed on their website indicate 89dB efficiency and an 8-ohm nominal impedance, with a minimum of 6.5. The Dart should be able to handle that load pretty eas...
Review of Dartzeel NHB-108 Amplifier DBK:I agree with Gladstone (scary, in't?). The DarTZeel is definitely helped out by the built-in sub of the VR-9. It takes a huge load off the amp's shoulders. I can get the 9 up to some wacky volumes, and it sounds like the amp is using maybe 25%...
Review of Dartzeel NHB-108 Amplifier Mike:Like the master tactician I am, I scoped out A-gon for a while first, looking for weak points and hot spots. I decided to focus my efforts on the discussion forums--which are generally more unstable than an African country. Then, like a (dead...
Review of Dartzeel NHB-108 Amplifier Gladstone:I've been found out! Yes, indeed, this really was a nefarious plan to see how many outright insults and subtle digs I could elicit in a week-long period. You see, I have something of a sadomasochistic streak. Years of therapy--electrosho...
Review of Dartzeel NHB-108 Amplifier Joperfi:I wasn't surprised at the bickering and sniping per se; I was kinda shocked at how quickly things degenerated into a dick-swinging contest between certain parties. As for my dealer, what he does is his business. I like, trust, and admire t...
Review of Dartzeel NHB-108 Amplifier Well, I guess it's safe to reenter the thread, since most of the bickering and sniping seems to have stopped. This has been said ad nauseum, but it bears repeating again here: we're in this hobby for one reason and one reason only--to connect with...
Review of Dartzeel NHB-108 Amplifier Wow! A lot has gone on since I last posted. First off, when I said that the Midi Exquisites were lifeless, the implication was that I meant IN MY ROOM and IN MY EXPERIENCE. Everyone has different experiences. I listen to primarily rock, and IMHO a... |
