The Tony Bennett - Bill Evans Album - XRCD2 And what about that stunning mid-70s ensemble Mr. Evans is wearing. Yikes! I have the vinyl version, but I'd like to compare it with the XRCD someday. Love "When in Rome." Hodie
How do you 'listen' to new music? Pretty much the same as you. I began listening to classical in college without much direction. Foolishly, I bought Boulez's Nonesuch "Le Sacre," slapped it on the turntable, sat down to listen, and thought "Is this a joke?" I persisted with it, an...
TriPlanar Tips Thanks for the info, DD. I had to laugh, though, at the idea of having to modify that formidable instrument with sandpaper and a coathanger. Just wondering: is the current maker of the arm aware of these, shall we call them, eccentricities? I'd su...
Best budget tuner I have an NAD 4020A, purchased as a store demo way back in 1984. It's all the tuner I would ever need. The tuning dial is silky smooth. Its BNC connector allowed me to listen to WFMT in Chicago when Cable used to offer that service back in the Dar...
Ravel Violin Sonata I bet I'm not the only one in my neighborhood who doesn't have a clue what a Landini cadence is. I'm guessing it takes premium, though. You're right about this piece. I have a Philips Festivo (budget re-issue, I suppose) disc with Arthur Grumiaux ...
Early Beatles album question-- If your catalog number is T-2047, then it should be mono. On the jacket it says "also available in stereo."
Modern classical finds...one TAS I think? I'm not familiar with the Crystals, but the Nonesuch (H71291) is on the TAS list that I have from the late 80s (it's probably still on their list). Funny thing, I've had this record for years but have never gotten around to listening to it.
Is your turntable spinning while you clamp down? My table's maker(sounds a little center-holier-than-thou)encouraged me to leave the platter turning while I changed records. I've been doing it for 17 years with no problems.
What items do you rarely ever see offered for sale Nestorovic 5(or is it MK5, or something?) speakers from the early 90's. At least I haven't seen any.
Sheffield LP,,my first one Jsujo,I purchased a few Chesky's back in the late 80's that are fine re-masterings of the Sibelius Second Sym./Barbirolli; Reiner/Spain; and The Reiner Sound. All have wonderful sound, too.
Sheffield LP,,my first one This post was worth the price of admission just to see Aceto's use of "toothsome" in the forum. Excellent!
How Much To Rival Good Digital Playback RPL,I have to agree with you about piano on vinyl. Some of the worst recorded sound I've heard is solo piano, and especially harpsichord and pipe organ. Makes me seasick.
Do you have a dedicated listening room? I almost had a dedicated room built 5 years ago. The uncertain job market stopped me. I guess I'm stuck forever with a truly awful living room with flexing floors and plenty of slap echo. I'd take a basement with a weight bench any day. The listen...
Vinyl wow To FxsuperglideThanks for your helpful posting and for your email. I'll give it a try.
Vinyl wow Ohhwy61,I have "the" perfect pitch: the ol' wobble ball. By the way, is that Hwy.61 through the Delta? Anyhow, I'm mighty envious of everybody who isn't tormented by wow. Thanks for the feedback. |
