ELP Laser Turntable & Trickle Down
I've only read one article about these in a hi-fi mag awhile back so I'm not so sure they are as well known as you claim. At about $10k, I don't see them catching mass appeal anytime soon. They were supposed to be the replacement for conventional ...
Break In Your Speakers...... What CD and how long?
My advice is to put on your favorite albums and let them play through all day at a reasonable volume. Take some time every now and then to sit down and do some critical listening, looking for a more "full" sound. Most speakers will sound "tight" a...
What to do with bad recorded CDs
If it's an older CD you really love to listen to, do some research to see if you can find a remaster or audiophile copy. Some older albums have been remastered over the years as much as 4 or 5 times!! This should be obvious but, try to find discs ...
Office System -- Low Volume Speakers
My friend has a pair of Arro's and he mentioned that they were rather "bright" when he first got them. He attached a DIY damper to the tweeter of each speaker (consisting of a straw and hockey tape) and was satisfied with the sound. I listened to ...

New York Times article on Beatles and bootlegs
I read about "Purple Chick" (apparently just a group of obsessed fans) in Rolling Stone here Apparently, their digital remasters of the classic Beatles albums are sonically superior to the studio releases.
Speaker noise - hissing
I've found that Sovteks and a lot of common Russian-made tubes can be quite noisy, especially the Sovtek 12AX7LPS. It most definitely is always the preamp tubes or the smaller tube types such as 12AX7/12AU7/12AT7, 5751, etc.. Never had noise probl...
Which tonearm wire
I second the Incognito. Rewired my RB300 and it was fairly straightforward and sounds great now. Only trouble I had was getting the rubber stopper out of the arm tube.

10 Levels of Turntable Mastery
I'll go ahead and say a TML 4-5 has the ability to rewire and mod tonearms. I've accomplished this with the Incognito rewire kit for my RB300. Rega's are one of the easier category of tonearms to rewire/mod, but certainly not the easiest. The risk...
New LPs with CDs inside
I've heard that the "Mudcrutch" (Tom Petty's band) S/T LP comes with a CD that uses no dynamic compression. The retail CD uses dynamic compression which would be an interesting comparison.Viridian-> You've never thought of comparing LP's and CD...
Tube amplifier bad caps
Atmasphere-> thx for the assessment. I'm leaning towards a bad contact somewhere. It turns out I've found the local company (formerly the company that went out of business that I purchased the unit from) that is the importer for CR Developments...
Intergrated tube amp recommedation for B&W703's
I've heard that B&W's don't work well with tube amps but I could be wrong. In my case, I have a 15W tube amp that is very picky about speaker selection.
Bellari VP-530 mods
Opened up my VP-530 today. The ADC-to-USB is on a small, separate PCB that appears to be made by a company called Soundcorp. On the bottom of this board is the Burr-Brown PCM2901EG.As for the Op-Amp's, there are 4 that could be potentially replace...
Tube amplifier bad caps
Hmm...now I'm second guessing. A lot of uncertainty as I've been told it's definitely the filter caps. However, the amp is not even 10 years old and I've been suspicious of this assessment. I've seen what cap leakage looks like and they definitely...
