Are there other people like me ? Amazed by their low cost system :)
With regards to this particular post: This weekend I had some spare time on my hands so I stopped in one of the local audiophile stores to buy a couple of new albums.  While there, I asked if I could listen to their very best system, in their hig...
San Diego Audiophile group?
Jerry - I look forward to meeting you.  I hike in the Sierra all summer.  I have hiked the JMT several times, and I know many of the areas along the 395 pretty well.  Between musical systems and hiking, we will have plenty to chat about. I look f...
Martin Logan CLS vs Newer Hybrids Like Montis, Summit X, 9A, 11A
Following this thread..... I have the ML Montis and I LOVE them.  I mainly listen to female vocals, jazz, and some rock (Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Eagles, others).  I've listened to many other brands of speakers at lots of high-end stores and I j...
power cord for pass 250.8
Surely there has to be a power cord that costs more than $3000, and that will automatically sound EVEN better.  Right?
Upgrade My Turntable - How Much Do I Need to Spend?
After spending over 100 hours studying, shopping, visiting local stores, and researching every source on the matter I finally pulled the trigger and bought a very gently used, 6-month old Technics SL-1200G. The Seller included a Benz Micro Wood L2...
Songs you use when auditioning gear
My absolute favorite: Dire Straits, Album = Love Over Gold - Song = Private Investigations   The entire song is fantastic with an excellent sound stage, but about halfway through the song the dynamic range becomes explosive.
Cable Break In for the Naysayers
Ozzy - if that's what you hear then go for it.  The mind can do incredible things that feel very real.
Cable Break In for the Naysayers
I would be interested to know if anyone has ever done a blind or double-blind test with cables. Two sets of identical cables, one broken in for 500 hours, and the other with no hours of use.  The test would consist of the same amp, source and spea...
Upgrade My Turntable - How Much Do I Need to Spend?
Thank you all for your experience on the matter and your advice.   On a side note, it's always interesting to see how a thread like this goes off course onto a tangent that is far from the original question:  how big of a step up do I need to mak...
Upgrade My Turntable - How Much Do I Need to Spend?
I really hate to ask stupid questions, but I will anyway.... why would I not just use the MM or MC input on my McIntosh tube preamp?  Isn't this a "phonostage"?    And like I said, my apologies for the question - I am learning this analog as I go!
Martin Logan vs. Everything
I have ML Montis speakers in my 2 channel room and I love them just as much as the original poster on this thread.  I have heavily treated my room to make them as good as I possibly can, and I spent hours and hours and hours dialing them into the ...
Question: What are some of your best pieces of advise to someone new to the hobby?
Buy a laser measuring device so that you can measure the exact distance of both speakers from your primary listening position.  Fractions of an inch matter.
What is the VERY BEST CD album you've ever heard?
Diana Krahl, The Girl In The Other Room and Roger Waters, Amused To Death.
My Home Theatre Room Challenges - Is It Worth It To Upgrade Speakers
Improving my center channel (for dialogue quality) was absolutely one of my top priorities, and I feel like I accomplished that goal.  We now rarely turn on Closed Captioning, and we find voice quality to be much better - so I feel like we nailed ...
My Home Theatre Room Challenges - Is It Worth It To Upgrade Speakers
About a month ago, I started this thread and my intent was to gain input for ideas on improving the system that we use for movie watching in our family room.  I have a separate 2-channel room on the other side of the house that I use for the best ...
