Preamp Deal of the Century
Congrats. It's always satisfying when small changes yield big results. Still, unless Mick dug into his special stock of tubes, there's a lot of room for improvement. And also the fuse and umbilical too.
Preamp Deal of the Century
I’ve never dealt with Andy, but have always been impressed with his site. At least for information, Brent Jessee’s site is very useful too. That said, if I’d known what I eventually learned about the newer Sophia and Treasure Globe tubes, I’d have...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Sophia Electric Aqua 274B, Grant Fidelity Treasure Globes (6SN7) and early 1960s RCA 6L6GC’s. Best combo for my tastes I’ve come across, after trying many others. Everything one likes, plus a touch of warmth, tho the latter ultimately depends on b...

Tell us about your system and what tubes and power fuses you are using.

Thanks. Not sure I'll go for the mod when I go up to the Cabernet, but I'll have to discuss that with Mick. Because I use powered speakers, the Chardonnay is downstream from a Lampi dac for me, and with the Treasure Globes (Grant Fidelity), I had ...

Looking for others’ thoughts. I’m now in a position to upgrade from the Chardonnay, so a couple of days ago I asked Mick what would an "all stops out" single 6SN7 Cabernet look like. He responded that "all out" would be the Grange Signature circui...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Agree! In the near future, I may be looking to go up to a 6SN7 Cabernet from the Chardonnay, with the thought to ask Mick to let out all the stops in terms of materials quality. I have no interest in the dual though, as I’m happy with the 6SN7 sou...
Contact -enhancer, fuses - NOS 1260 High fidelity audio cables
I found that doing one or two connections or fuses gets some sparkle in the sound right away w/o the noted darkness, but doing several or all connections at once gets the latter. But it goes away noticeably over the course of a few hours.
Aurender N20 Music Server Comments and Observations
In terms of tonality, i.e., “neutral” to some degree of warmth, where does the N20 stand? Someone told me the N10 sounded rather cool and digital on his one listen, but I don’t know how seriously to take that.  Thanks

@willgolf. You’re correct about left to right direction, which seems to be an industry standard, or at least the way the lateral under-plug holders are typically wired (I’ve asked and the answer is always the same). If a fuse is in the wrong direc...
Review ATC SCM 40 A floorstanders.....finally
Bass in the 40A not as tight as 19A. 19A and 50A use better Super Linear (SL) driver. A couple of reviewers more recently found the 40A midrange uninspiringly dry, something that could be overcome with other components. I did at first too, but am ...

Would love to hear one, too. Wouldn’t want to deal with all those tubes, though. At least now we know that Mick has been sandbagging us on other models holding back his stock of old tubes. ;-)
Supratek or Don Sachs - which way to go?
The noise you are describing seems to be normal — same when turning on and sometimes iff my Chardonnay — and should cause no harm to your speakers no matter when you turn it on or off, but ask Mick if you want. I’d also ask about the hiss. Dependi...
Supratek or Don Sachs - which way to go?
When I asked about the LTA MicroZotl preamps, I was told by both developer and owners that it was tonally "neutral" as opposed to modestly warm. If the amp creates that kind of tonality overall in your system and you like it, then be aware that Mi...

Think you need to ask Mick.
