Bookshelf speakers with the good bass.
I previously owned Dynaudio Special 25's. Their bass belies their size and appearance. However they are rear ported and perform best on stands and away from the wall. I now use Merlin TSM-mme speakers. These also have wonderful bass performance an...
How does the Cambridge Azur 840C sound compared
Another vote for the Sony. Without a doubt the best SACD player I have owned or heard.
Rega Saturn or Sony SCD-XA5400ES ?
The Sony is my choice. I have had the top players from McIntosh, Ayre, Arcam and played them side by side against the Sony. On SACD the Sony was my choice every time. The Ayre player was redbook only, and on Redbook I still liked the Sony better.F...
McIntosh C220 VS C2300 AB comparison
I have owned all 3, and presently have the C2300. The phono section alone in the C2300 is worth the difference. I can tell you that the C2300 is the better performing amp in both sound and function.I really liked my C2200, and on line level signal...
All time favorite speaker cables
Another vote for Supra
Vandersteen 2C vs. Klipsch Cornwall
If you want loud, bass power, and little regard for choice of amp, the Cornwall fits the bill nicely. It will come with plenty of box coloration too.If you want tonal accuracy, coherent music, natural and accurate reproduction and no box coloratio...
Ayre CX-7e comparison to Sony SCD-xa5400es
I purchased both models and have lived with both and compared them side by side. I prefer the Sony in all aspects, however the Ayre is a superb player in it's own right. On Ray Brown's Moonlight Serenade the "Pluck" on his bass strings are definite...
Sony SCD-XA5400ES owners question
The control does 'not' have definite click detents. However the operation is smooth and positive. I use the remote 99% of the time which is excellent. This is without question the best SACD/CD player I have owned and I have had many.
SONY XA5400ES - Preliminary Observations
I have had the 5400ES now for 3 weeks. it is an excellent player on both RB and SACD. I have a McIntosh and an Arcam as well which are both very good players. The SACD performance of the Sony offers noticeable clarity, detail and soundstage improv...
The best CD Player for the money
Sony SCD-XA5400ES. NO CONTEST! I have had many of the top players, some costing WAY more than the Sony XA5400ES. Resolution, definition, musicality, the best so far for me.

Mcintosh 501 monoblocks vs. 402
I use the MC-402 with the 3.6's and get superb sound. I have heard the 501's as well in a direct comparison with the 402. At regular listening levels I could not hear any difference. If you are buying "New" from a dealer my guess is the most influ...
Review: Merlin Music Systems TSM-MME Monitor
That was a great review Tz! Amazingly, I use an identical system with the exception of a Mc SACD player in lieu of the Marantz, and I NEED to get the subwoofer. Merlin TSM-mme are most amazing.I found similar results on my listening, but now need ...
Damaged Dynavector 20XL
Hi Cruz,I have the same tonearm and used both the High output 20 and the Karat. Somehow the extra weight of the 20 made it a better match for my system. The Dynavector 20 series with the VPI 9 series arms is one of those matches made in heaven. I h...
Help with buzz / hum that's making me insane r
There are a few things I would look for.- Is there a light dimmer on the circuit or on a neighboring circuit? If so disconnect and see if problem stops.- Are all your connections tight in the breaker box? They come loose with time and vibrate and ...
