Bookshelf speakers with the good bass.
Just curious as I always found it odd that when unless your "Bookshelf" speakers are actually on a bookshelf why would a floorstanding speaker not work that takes up the same space as a monitor on a stand 14 inches from the wall. This also removes...
Rolling Stones Fans- I Need advice
1/ original pressing (england) 2/ Mobile Fidelity pressing 3/Japenese re-issues 4/ US or Canadian original pressing 5/ CD's and reissue lps, most are not that good at all. This is just my opinion but as big stones fan if you can,t afford or are no...
Anyone successful in dealing with Tinnitus?
Elizabeth is correct I agree. No one knows more than the person that deals with it daily , weekly , yearly and into decades. Having gone through a situation myself Uru975 I could not agree more with you. Luckily I now have a practitioner who liste...
are subwoofers anti-audiophile?
Agree with Jmcgrogan2 100%. Subs for hometheatre can embellish the enjoyment of a Movie watched but are very hard to get right and usually expensive for musical bass that does not overwhelm the room or the MIDRANGE! Cheers
Select Your Less Than Ideal System
C for sure. This formula usually always gives the goods. Cheers!
Which purchase tipped you into nirvana.
Big Ben Blotters seeing Pink Floyd in concert early seventies..... well perma grin is still the same as a big smile . Cheers
Preamp predicament
Ho72 , I think keeping the Zero,s is a good idea.. Try and get yourself a used NHT sub from the same line meant for use with them. You will really hear some of the great potential from such a small monitor . They do image well and voices are wonde...
Preamp predicament
Your sub is not going to work well with the Zero,s. The Arcam has plenty of drive for the Zero,s and I have NHT speakers in all my systems. I still own the super Zero,s and I personally disagree that they are bright. The have no bass but when mate...
Quick poll How long have you been in this hobby?
41 years and 2 months! January 1969 when I bought my first system . Funny I can remember that like it was yesterday. But everything in between then and what I own now would overload the grey matter thats left between my ears!(presuming there was s...
Comments on Dire Straits Re-mastered LPs?
I bought the re-issue of Dire Straights first LP done by Bernie and pressed in Germany. I,m very pleased with this re-issue. It,s done quite well and was a treat to own again. My Favorite Dire Staights LP with Brothers in Arms a close second. In J...
Todays new vinyl LP's better than LP's 40 yrs ago?
I have yet to of bought or heard a re-issue LP that sonicly beats the original pressing. A lot of the albums pressed in the 60's were very well done. Not so much in the later 70's. I wondered that in a previous thread about the quality of vynil us...
Drilling holes into the Michell Orbe SE subchasis?
Any reputable machine shop could do it. The holes would not have to be an exact mirror image of the holes on the right side or ear as you say. The arm you choose (and how its mounted) would dictate where they need to be I would think for ease of s...
Are scratch LPs part of the game ?
Hi Actusreus, I think your right , its more an interpretation differance. To me a medium scratch is something that would effect play. I'm wondering now that you say your new to vynil and are buying mostly new lps if it is more an issue with the qu...
Is Speaker Termination Required?
I agree with Stanwal. The binding posts tend to be a bigger problem . Lots feel bare wire is best and for the reasons mentioned are probably rite. Elizabeth is correct in the application of it and the ooops that can happen. Cheers.
Are scratch LPs part of the game ?
I said 40 plus year old LP.s that were ALMOST flawless . Of course some come with some minor imperfection and don,t effect play and still can and are enjoyed. The poster stated he is puting medium scratches in them just by handling them. Well I do...
