Victor TT 101 vs TT 81
Halcro, besides the aesthetics, was there any value in removing the "base" from the turntable? BTW, I like the design of your arm pillars. Any reason you decided to go with your own design as opposed to using the steel column "legs with spikes" ...
Victor TT 101 vs TT 81
Are there any parts you think are particularly important to acquire as spares?I think for both the TT-81 and TT-101, every part (including chips) is available (just Google the part No.).There is just one special power chip which is scarce and Lewm...

has the resonance structure of a sausage hitting a pillow.Foam pillow or goose-feather?
Victor TT 101 vs TT 81
Hi Harry,Can you describe your "custom base" and what you feel it does for the sound of the TT-101?Regards

This is the motor unit and electronics of the TT-101http://i.imgur.com/T1gijMr.jpgand this is the corresponding unit of the TT-81http://i.imgur.com/fsVuGYu.jpgIf you are aware of some of the slight differences in specs between them, I think the ma...
interesting phenomena in the cutting room
Perhaps Ralph understands that all the points you raise about the recording processes are common to both digital and analogue and have nothing to do with the 'cutting' processes of the LP....?
Did you ever think digital and analog would exist side by side the way it is now
I never dumped ANY records 25 years ago.....but I sure began buying the ones that "everyone" else had.And I also never bought CDs then or since.....Don't really care what happens to digital. It doesn't play any part in my serious listening.
Turntable Wars- Reviewers take sides
I agree sbank.....great to see HW contributing here 😎And in the true spirit of Festivus....he begins with ’The Airing of Grievances’....They don’t want you to know that the VPI DD is more accurate in all ways because then it makes these uber expen...
LONDON Decca, Tzar DST and similar cartridges
Hope this doesn't come off as sounding gratuitous or over-the-top!It might if one hadn't actually heard the DLR....😎
Turntable Wars- Reviewers take sides
Back in the day, HP routinely had lots of unobtainium gear with which to play and on which he leaked incomplete reports now and thenI think they were the good old days when TAS had no Ads Lew....The commercial situation I think has changed since t...
LONDON Decca, Tzar DST and similar cartridges
However, no matter how good the Decca is, it doesn't beat a 15 IPS master tape - no way. I have several cartridges (out of the 70+ I have owned) that are closer to the sound of master tapes than the Decca London Reference. The high-frequency perfo...
Turntable Wars- Reviewers take sides
I'm expecting Mikey to change to a new turntable sooner rather than later (do I hear Doehmann?).It's OK for Art Dudley to have his vintage 'off-market' esoteric equipment and write about it..... but it's poor form for the chief analogue writer of ...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Fleib,Congrats on your TT-81. Any ideas on how you're going to mount it?Can only speculate on the reasons, supported only by my empirical observations.I now know that the motor unit and electronics of the Victors put out RFI/EMI as the metal cage ...
LONDON Decca, Tzar DST and similar cartridges
What intrigues me bdp24....is why the Tzar DST is so heavy whereas the Decca London Reference is so light...?
LONDON Decca, Tzar DST and similar cartridges
If you choose to live under the oppression of the illusion of tonearm/cartridge matching....there is precious little analogue joy ahead of you,For those enlightened few who possess tone arms with interchangeable headshells....simply select a good ...
