High-Efficiency Single Driver Speaker System
I don't think there is a "single" speaker with that capability. But there are certainly coaxial two way speakers out there. GPA, Great Plains Audio, has upgraded versions of the Altec 604. Tannoy is still in business. Probably others too.I do like...
Hi-Fi Fuses - SNAKE OIL? - or something in it?
Lacee: Thanks for the continuing discussion. The 7T back panel has no room for such a power cable change as "like a computer." I could drill out the opening where the stock power cord enters, but enlarge it to what size? One with a 20 amp capacity...

Hi-Fi Fuses - SNAKE OIL? - or something in it?
Lacee: Not all designs lend themselves to that kind of modification. From power cords to internal wiring.I still think its a stretch that a fuse, now as simple as it is could be such an object of desire, so to speak. At some time, I'll just let th...
variance of +/- 10 Hz with 1 kHz test tone
Apologies apparently are in order. That amount -/+ 10 Hz is really 20 Hz because it is going from 1000 to 1010 to 990 and in between. I left off the % multiplier which changes it signicantly. 20/1000=.02x100=2%Still, listening will give a good pic...
variance of +/- 10 Hz with 1 kHz test tone
If I'm not mistaken that level of performance translates to .02% away from what a casual internet search showed to the best to be, a VPI TT with .01%Anything that bests .1% exceeds NAB specifieations."Wow and Flutter Factor (Re~ording)~1.15 It sha...
Hi-Fi Fuses - SNAKE OIL? - or something in it?
For now, what does one need to do in order to take advantage of such a marvelous power cord when all (my assumption) amplifiers don't have detachable power cords? This means you have to "tear" into the chassis & start replacing the leads up to ...
Hi-Fi Fuses - SNAKE OIL? - or something in it?
Neither arrogant nor presumptuous, but why then aren't such outstanding cables/fuses part of the OEM kit? Surley the ultimate amplifier maker would want to scrimp here & there so some other company could pick up what should be his domain? I'm ...
Hi-Fi Fuses - SNAKE OIL? - or something in it?
Thanks...however, in the years I've had my ears in this, the "experts" always said that the goal was to have the sound that was as close to undistinguishable as possible to the original. Sterile, harsh, not warm & cuddly suggest to me they hav...
Hi-Fi Fuses - SNAKE OIL? - or something in it?
Hmmm...In my case, I really don't know what speakers with 100db sensitivity might be able to "mask." I readily agree they don't perform flat out to 20khz for sure. They will sound different than others, I agree. But no two speakers sound alike for...
variance of +/- 10 Hz with 1 kHz test tone
Play some music with piano on it. Not necessarily rock&roll.Look for something that is moderate or slower in tempo. You should be able to hear whether a variation of the degree you desctibe is noticable or objectionable.Report back to us & ...
Hi-Fi Fuses - SNAKE OIL? - or something in it?
I'm allowed to stay up as long as I see fit :)My present fuses are well broken in...having been used & never replaced since they were new, pre 1973. I know you didn't ask about that. Surley, can't be of high quality having lasted that long...M...
Hi-Fi Fuses - SNAKE OIL? - or something in it?
The next thing you know, there will be discussion of on which day of the week or hour of the day provides the best electrons & if they sounded great today, can you have the same ones back for tomorrow. Or maybe someone will start selling canne...
Idler drive turntables
The Miracord is a changer? The others may have a little less rumble & of course not the same limitation as an installed (non changeable) arm might have.
Stylus profiles for mono records
.7 mil was the standard for microgroove recordings until the elliptical tip came to be. I tend to think that may still be preferred over anything else for monaural discs.
