No one spoke about the Adikt?However, sticking with what you have for a frame of reference is a good chunk of advice.(A sub 300 dollar cart will usually sound better in a 800 table than a sub 300 dollar table with an 800 dollar cart.) 
Cassette decks....reliability and build quality...
My experience recording interviews and certain news clips from FM have put the weak spot on my antenna, not the cassette deck.I prefer a Pioneer 707 reel to reel for this purpose, but a friend of mine uses a TASCAM SS-R1 Solid State Flash Recorder...

I dont know what happened to it. It will not move anymore.It sounds like the record is being played with a chunk of cardboard over the speaker.I checked it (inputs) and they are fine.Wiring is good.Inside the cart somehow...is just, done.
