VAC Ren II, VAC Phi, or ARC Ref 3?
Thanks Oneobgyn, no I am not discouraged at all. . . right now I am enjoying 'mud city': Ref 3 got a lot worse approx 6 hrs into breakin. . . I know it's temporary. Sorry, the nice "English Racing green' display is lost on me. . . can't see it at ...
VAC Ren II, VAC Phi, or ARC Ref 3?
Doc and all, I finally received my Ref 3 this very morning. . . and it's already making music. It is connected to my X-01 source via AQ Sky XLR, and the down-range IC leg is temporarily provided by a pair of Gutwire Synchrony XLR. Ref 3 has now be...

Thank you Nsgarch, my bad!
thougts on arc ref1--please advise
As far as I know, and I have spoken to Leonard at ARC just last week, that is correct. LS5 is symmetrically balanced and has only XLR connectors. You can probably use RCA through XLR2RCA converters. . . and YMMV., caveat emptor, we make no explici...
VAC Ren II, VAC Phi, or ARC Ref 3?

Mike, I know of an ARC dealer who refused to give up his/her own LS5 Mk. 3 for a long time. . . past the Ref 1, past the Ref 2 Mk. 1. And only sold it when the Ref 2 Mk. 2 became available, and even then the difference was apparently not earthshat...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
No Mak, do not speed up nor slow down anything. . . just listen to the music and follow your heart. If the APL 3910 player gives you joy it's the one for you. If in the end it does not, then it isn't. And this goes for any other player as well as ...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
I guess at this point it is safe to declare that digital 'got the soul of music' on January 28th, 2006. Welcome Mak, and good luck!

I heard the ones to stay away from are the 'generic' Softech(s) relabeled as Svetlana by the importer.

Mike, why not bite the proverbial bullet and go for a Ref 3?
Anyone using an external clock with Esoteric X-01?
I second Babybear's findings. I listened to his system several times, with and without the G0s clock and could not hear a difference. Last October we both travelled to Aris Audio open house in Salt Lake City (Ut) (801-272-1690)where we were hosted...
VAC Ren II, VAC Phi, or ARC Ref 3?
Keithr, TBG's breakin finding are consistent with my own. As you may have read I have purchased a Teac X-01 last October. Teac America had suggested that the unit would reach optimum performance after c.ca 80 hrs. My experience has been that the u...
VAC Ren II, VAC Phi, or ARC Ref 3?
ARC has posted a rather amusing review of the Ref 3 from Hi-Fi on its site. See:http://www.audioresearch.com/reviews.htmlIn it the author criticizes humorously the Ref 3's admittedly somewhat stern elegance, and characterizes its 'English racing g...
Are 6H23P's the Same as a 6922?
6H23P and 6922 are close enough for Leonard at ARC to tell me that I should be able to put one in my venerable LS2B without running the risk of frying any vital gizzards in the old girl. Have not tried the swap yet though.
Reference DACS: An overall perspective
George, there is no magic change between the 800 hrs and the 1K hrs break in mark in X-01. Rather, this is the time when a user will likely lift all residual reservations or qualification on the X-01 performance. When the product is brand new, the...
