Best new loudspeaker
Ouch. . . I seem to be hearing some smidgin of stridency emanating from the black backgroun. . . Is it mayhaps that darn Supraphon box with the Panocha Quartet again? Alas no. . . seems it's coming from a badly overdriven Sackbut struttin' its stu...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Detlof, I now understand what you meant. . . in spades. . . but only a few months ago I was slightly less aware of the pervasiveness of the issue of black-inter-track background vs in-track musical silence. Since I have replaced my trusty Maggies ...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Hi Detlof, if you really were bent to source terrible newer digital recordings, there are still a few around. . . for the fan of slow dentist drills grounding one's front upper teeth, that is! Try the Supraphone box set of the Panocha Quartet play...
Extreme Midrange Bloom
All, let us keep this little thread on the narrow topic at hand. . . . if oil caps were imparting a slight unwanted richness to the upper mids of the 52SE, is it practical to change them, and what caps should be used without overcompensating?
Extreme Midrange Bloom
It is my understanding that the BAT VK 52SE in question was already largely broken-in when Frontier1 received it.
Extreme Midrange Bloom
It seems BAT consider its pervasive use of oil capacitors a main feature of the VK 52SE. Design of 52SE may very well have been optimized for these caps. See:http://www.balanced.com/products/line/vk-52se/index.htmlI fear that replacing those oil c...
Treble of Vienna Acoustics Haydn Grand?
Hi Campton, I will consider granting Stereo Mojo a minimum of credibility as soon as their reviewers learn to write with correct English grammar. . . and learn to spell Haydn (rather than 'Hadyn'). Please see Neil gader's review of the Haydn Grand...
Best new loudspeaker
MRT, why don't you tell us what 'new loudspeaker' of the planar/magnetic/electrostatic variety has caught your fancy instead?
Treble of Vienna Acoustics Haydn Grand?
Campton, unless you listen to them yourself, you will never know if the Hydns are for you. It is worth pointing out that what for some people is an 'airy top' is for someone else a hissy earbleeder, which Vienna speakers are typically not.
Treble of Vienna Acoustics Haydn Grand?
Campton, I Googled the NAD C352. Found a link showwing the following:Damping factor (ref 8 ohms 50 Hz), >150This is probably adequate for the Haydn Grands. However, I would also recommend you discuss synergy with a knowledgeable dealer for Vien...
Review: NuForce 9 V2 SE Amplifier
marvellous! This is all pointing to switching technology coming of age. . . and not necessarily conforming to increasingly obsolete stereotypes.
Jeff Rowland Model 7 & Model 5 Upgrade
Hi 94968, I own a pair of JRDG 7Ms which I dearly love. I confess of being a great fan of Jeff's current 312 design, which is currently my favorite amp. Soundings of Denver (Co) told me that Jeff has just introduced an external device containing t...
Treble of Vienna Acoustics Haydn Grand?
As Dave suggested, Vienna speakers come to life when driven stoutly by amps with high damping factors. When paired with the right amp they are in fact very dynamic whith extended but seldom tizzy highs, musical mids and extended bass. Viennas bene...
Extreme Midrange Bloom
It is worth pointing out that Frontier1 is baselining against the excellent ASL Flora, which is not displaying the excessive bloom. This suggests that the issue may be specific to the VK52Se. Frontier1 already reported this bloom to me before repl...
