Wyred4sound STI - 500 for Magnepan speakers
Magnepan 1.7 driven by Bel Canto REF1000 MkII and I couldn't be more pleased. The speakers are just getting broken in but the performance has been superior from the first play. This combination has been very revealing in a DAC comparison currently...
Would you pay to listen?
I already pay every time I see a movie. The audio system in a typical movie theater costs well above $200K. The only thing missing being able to bring my own material. However, I do get a limited selection at the ticket office.
Pre-amp newbie question
One of the many benefits of AudiogoN is buying used equipment to evauluate and re-sell if it the equipment is not satisfying. You should be able to buy a reasonably priced phonomena II on this site. Everyone has opinions and they all.. are subject...
Changed Speaker Placement NOW BOOMY
Your best bet would be to get a material sample from the Misses to make sure you are in compliance! I mean no harm or disrespect but this is a really fun thread on a subject that we have all dealt with at some point in time. :) Counting on your su...
Changed Speaker Placement NOW BOOMY
Goldenear, I can't help but wonder how the plywood, perforated, sound trap, burlap wrapped, corner hugging, stand in the corner, acoustic treatment will pass the Wife Appreciation Factor. No doubt everyone is waiting to see how this transpires as ...

Changed Speaker Placement NOW BOOMY
I don't want to sound flippant but put your speakers back where they were and fit the furniture to accommodate the stereo. IMHO it is much easier to fit furniture around a stereo the visa versa. Considering the cost of equipment verses furniture (...
Playing the wifes music choices
My wife is too intimidated by my various systems to attempt to use them on her own. I think it's much to do about nothing but secretly I appreciate that she doesn't want to fiddle with the systems. In response to her descresioin I am delighted any...
High End Audio and Your hearing as you get older
WoodBurger put his finger on the hearing issue. How often have you been disappointed by a well spec'd component because it didn't sound good or surprised by a component that sounded great but didn't spec well. That scenario also works on the recei...
What's your profession? Age?
54, EVP Marketing in the SEMI industry. I am afraid to do the math on my audio equipment addiction. My first stereo was purchased in 77 while deployed on an aircraft carrier and currently have two home theaters and three stereos. I guess I should ...
50' speaker or 50' interconnect?
Based on cables alone, the 50' balanced interconnect is superior to the 50' speaker cable. In the case of long cable runs attenuation and noise injection are the big concerns. Of the two problems, noise is the most problematic for interconnects. T...
does amp draw alot of power when volume is zero
If you are worried about wasting energy, and money, on idle music systems you should consider Class D amplifiers. These amplifiers are very efficient in use and at idle. My desktop integrated amplifier draws 15 watts at idle and sounds great.
Component Video cables vs HDMI
The pros of HDMI are 1080p video and digital sound are transferred through the cable. The con is the HDMI connection is slightly fragile and is more prone to damage than other connections. The importance of cable quality increases along with the l...

Three words: Setup, Setup, Setup. It's easy to loose any benefit from a good or great cartridge and phono preamp with a bad setup. Invest in a setup record and some tools to ensure that your tone arm and cartridge are set up properly. Until you ha...
