Preamp no longer makes a difference after caps and wire I would talk with Pathos and describe your goals for the unit and how it is hooked up, I think they are in a better position to tell you how to proceed
Bang for Buck Go for the phono stage and cartridge next
Best speakers for a Pass XA 30.5 I had a Pass Labs XA30.8 and had no problem driving Bryston mini-t speakers or Proac D30R speakers.
What brand was better than it is today? It’s just capitalism, in a free market the inefficient loose market share or go out of business, new more efficient businesses take their place. I just went to Axpona there are plenty of small businesses out there offering quality audio products.
Audio Doctor goes to Axpona observations so far My favorite room was the Raven Audio room. They have great tube gear and had their own speakers now. I think their tube gear is comparable to VAC in sound.
What are the weak points of Pass amps and pre-amps ? Inna, I have a Pass Labs XA30.8 amp and a Pass Labs XP-20 preamp. They are great. The amp is a bit heavy 100 lbs, being class A it puts out a little heat. I don’t run my amp 24/7. 1 hr warmup is all that’s required for excellent sonics. I have no ...
Is anything better than the Accuphase T-100? I’ve owned the following fm tuners:Accuphase T-100, T-109V, T-1100Sansui TU-717Kenwood 600TFor the money I really liked the Sansui TU-717, that would be my recommendation.
Which would you choose; Pass 250.8, arc 75SE or luxman m900u? I have the Pass Labs 30.8 amplifier (class A) and it sounds great for the pop and jazz music I listen to. If I listened to classical music I would probably own a tube amp.
Best song for immediate impact when presenting or testing? James Ingram & Michael McDonald - Yah Mo B ThereBill Withers - Use Me
What are the best speakers you have ever owned and why? My current speakers Proac D30R are the best speakers I have ever owned. They have great midrange. Takes time to break them in to hear their full potential.
Which area of components to spend the most $ on? Boy I was wrong all my life! If the CD player has digital outputs, the best bang for the buck would be to add an upgraded dac
Speaker suggestions I would talk with Decware since they make high efficiency speakers also. Their website says they offer 30 day free trials on their speakers.
$20K to spend on speakers…. . wait! There’s a catch! Go To Audio shows large and small and begin listening tests a $600 ticket and $500 room is small price to invest in a $20,000 decision
Opening a can of worms If you have run a test and drawn conclusions, why are you asking for others opinions. You are wasting other people’s time
Isolation feet/cones for PS Audio NuWave DSD DAC I’ve tried herbies and DH cones. I recently switched to mig 2. The music seems more lively with the mig 2s to me. |
