Can we objectively rate speaker cables?
Nasaman -- you've got a point about us:) BUT: What's da system???Almarg aptly notes Besides their apparently outlandish markups, what I find to be the biggest turn-off about super-expensive cables is the design rationale which is typically offered...
Download 24 Songs & Pay $1.9 Million
Finally! $ 1,9 mill is all that was missing to cover my annual bonus!{I work for the music industry, I'm a successful top executive -- as evidenced by the spectacular growth in my industry and the profits generated.}On 2nd thought, maybe $ 0,99 is...
Can we objectively rate speaker cables?
Applauding your idea to bring some coherency to the confusing subject of choosing cables, we will be stomped by the variability of our systems. OTOH, your attributes, presented as opposites (warm-analytical) may help simplify things.I would sugges...
system synergy
I can only speculate. The amp is a relatively easy load. However, given its specs it would need a pre with a very stable output & with an as low as possible output impedance. IC would probably be shielded (unfortunately) if you live in a noisy ...
tonearms with VTA-towers for true "VTAF"
What about a more user-friendly Schroeder (wobbly, but has strings attached to it for easy pulling... weak pun intended). Best of all would be ANY tone-arm type, but equipped with an auto-calibration detector ("ACD", proprietary technology, develo...
B+W 801D
i will say you would be much better off with the 800's over the 801'sI would agree. For one, they're easier in many ways... They're also slightly better IMO.
8 ohm speaker hooked up to 4 ohm post ?
It would not damage anything. However, it's usually the 8ohm tap that's the optimum performer, i.e. (contrary to common logic) the 4ohm driving 8 ohm spkrs does not sound as good. BTW, I assume you have a tube amp>,?
Which speakers are higher efficiency?
do you guys think 24W is good enough for Grand Veena?Actually, no. About 100W is more like it. Regards
B+W 801D
Kal, he's asking about the 801 "D". "D" for diamond = (hard) ceramic.
Single vs Dual Subs
Budget is around $2k (...) you could get a pair of new subs from Hsu Research...That is the answer to your query, IMO.Not perfect but good performance. Start with placement on the same plane as spkrs & take it fm there.
Which speakers are higher efficiency?
Magfan, what are you telling the guy??? Don't buy specs??? The guy has 15Watts of amplification, the phase angle is hardly his problem:).And, please believe me, the speaker with the worst specs will not sound best -- not unless the specs are wrong...
B+W 801D
What would you like to know? B&W is a serious constructor...Here are some quick pointers. You must like the house sound, or keep away. Very good job of mating the (hard ceramic) tweet with the next in line driver (as is NOT the case in other "c...
Is this Normal? Zeppelin IV LP sounds horrible
D I just saw yr OP. I have a European pressing. Haven't listened to it in aeons but, still, don't remember the kind of distortion you describe. Must check it out.BTW, Mechans, I have other LZ too, they're not particularly hot on fuzz boxes, etc (w...
VTA setting for 'parabolic' and 'elliptical' styli
Interesting. Of course, the oft quoted 21-25d usually means parallel or slightly positive vta. I don't think there is a rule: mostly a combo of urban legend and different specs/ manufacturer.I'm not being helpful, but the problem usually lies not ...
Where to insert the step up transformer
Without the specs of yr SUT, cable, phono, & cartridge, there cannot be a "best" place. I recommend you try your 1ST solution first, then the second, in the order you present them. You should check for clarity of sound midrange upward, and dyna...
