$30K DAC in a $70K system - wise or ridiculous?
As you already have a PS Audio pre-amp/monoblocks, why not try their Directream DAC?
Oppo 105 stutter
One other consideration is to purchase a lens cleaner - basically it’s a CD/DVD with tiny brushes on the readable surface that pass over the laser pickup lens itself removing any dust or debris.  I have both an Oppo BDP105 and a UDP205 (supports 4...
Broken hearted...magnepan and vandersteen
@kingbarbudayour comments regarding placement are spot on (some guidance is also provided in the manual).  Regarding the tweets, I replaced the cheap stock fuses with Synergistic Blue fuses with notable improvement.  I hear good things about the M...
Broken hearted...magnepan and vandersteen
I happen to like both brands but own a pair of Magnepan 3.7i which sound wonderful in my listening room.  You do need a high current amp to drive them (I currently have a Musical Fidelity Nu Vista 800 Integrated amplifier).  Setup did take some ti...
Amazon Launches Lossless "Hi-rez" HD Music Service
My initial thoughts were that Amazon might be trying to go after Apple like they have done in the movie market (i.e. Netflix) - maybe go after the audiophile market as a longer-term objective.  For me Roon integration would be essential.
Separate DAC or continue using the Oppo UDP-205
I have all my digital media backed up to a NAS.  If I’m not actually playing CDs (my preference), I stream from my NAS (particularly when I travel or am too damn lazy to get up from the couch) and Qobuz (mainly to try new stuff).  I would find a d...
Separate DAC or continue using the Oppo UDP-205
Hi Loganfan,i would agree with Sonicjoy that probably your Sonos is the weak link - have you considered streaming directly to the Oppo using Roon or from laptop via USB?  Having said that I own a UDP-205 and for some was using it as my main transp...
PS Audio Perfect Wave DAC upgrade to DSD?
I have a DSD, and would be hard pressed to find a better DAC out there for the money (and it keeps getting better with each successive firmware upgrade).  PS Audio does offer a no risk in home trial allowing you to weigh the virtues of a new DAC w...
Synergestic Black Fuse vs Audio Magic BeesWax
I may have read this on another thread on this forum,  but I recently purchased a pair of Magnepan 3.7i speakers.  Do any of you have experience with base fuses with audiophile ones (I already replaced the the basic jumpers with the Cardas jumpers)?

The Day the Music Burned
Unfortunately the other thread turned into a political rant on the journalism of the NYT. ☹️ The loss of history is incalculable.  Technology these days allows us to get something almost as good as the master, which for me still is THE musical mom...
Most useful tweaks that are sensible and really make a noticeable improvement
Top priorities for me would be speaker alignment, subwoofer placement/integration, and seating position (the later depends on where you get the most even/natural bass response).  Essentially you have to play the room.  Nothing else really matters ...
What is the best solid state amplifier you have ever heard?
I just upgraded from a Musical Fidelity M6 500i amplifier to a Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 800.  While the former sounds amazing and can drive just about any speaker out there, the hybrid design of the Nu-Vista 800 gives you something really special...
Can we finally put Reel to Reel out of its misery? Put it to rest people.
Seems as audiophiles we’re all on the fringes anyway in terms of our own obsessions with sound quality and musical enjoyment (not a passion shared/appreciated by the majority of the public).  I think it’s great that there are so many options that ...
At what point is an external D/A converter warranted or beneficial
Nobel100’s suggestion is the best/most comprehensive one given gillatgh’s current setup (I was only initially thinking 2Ch stereo, but you can test the system on all fronts with his suggestion).  You’ll also get the bass management and more up to ...
