’Some is music you simply can’t find on other formats. ’ has2be,this is why I started investing in mono classical vinyl, due to its unavailability in the digital (remastered) format. I have some great original vinyl from the 1950’s as well as newl...

If I'm not mistaken, the Falcon would detect a basic sign wave and would adjust the rotation speed if the form and curve of the sound wave was irregular. Or maybe I'm thinking of a different unit.

Sorry, I mean to ask, if a tonearm should be my sole focus or if a roadrunner tachometer would make any sense with a Thoren's belt drive TT?The way I understand this thread is that a tachometer would show the inconsistencies in my rotation speed b...

has2be, you’ve posted a practical statement which, I would guess, most are capable of understanding. I’ve been in the process of modifying a Thoren’s TD 145 but still haven’t replaced the weakest link, the TP-16 tonearm. So to offset the tonearm’s...
The Best Piano Works of the 20th Century
Hyperion released an extensive 'The Romantic Piano' series. Much of it is 20th Century. The Godowski 'The Complete Studies on Chopin's Etudes' is worth having. As far as the best, one can't ignore the Shostakovich  Piano Quintet.
Classical Recordings from the Golden Age
Thanks daverz, if I’m not mistaken this Prokofiev concerto was recorded at Abbey Road with the LSO on August 23rd 1935. I have a digitally remastered recording of this as well as the Bartok and Bloch pieces but on the Andante Label. If you’re a fa...

Yes bdp, mono recordings are being reintroduced for there audiophile significance, i.e. MOFI 'Surrealistic Pillow'.  In some ways, I still believe that splitting the recording into two channels to create a stereo recording is somewhat of a gimmick...
Classical Recordings from the Golden Age
I believe that's a generational thing roberjerman as people once only owned one speaker. Yes, I have a cable running between the left and  right sub outputs which renders the amp mono.

Sorry, for some reason Audiogon is not allowing me to create paragraphs in the above post.
Recommendation for Quad ESL repair -- Sheldon Stokes!
I had four Quad 2905 panels replaced, two in each speaker, by Russ Knotts to fantastic results. If northern Ohio is doable, I would highly recommend Russ. He has a great deal of knowledge and experience with all Quad models as well as other manufa...
Favorite Dylan?
I saw Dylan at Music Hall in Cincinnati in 1981 shortly after the Slow Train release. I believe he only played four cuts from the album. That was easily one of the best shows I’d ever seen. Canned Heat, CS&Y and Dead shows are some others. As ...
Tower Records
I remember the store at Times Square later to become Virgin.
Dated but still A rated DACs
Ayre QB-9 DSD (upgraded from the original Ayre QB-9) I've been upgrading my Ayre with SR fuses (current Blue) and added the Uptone Audio ISO Regen with the LPS 1.2 linear power supply. I also put an Akiko tuning stick in one of the Ayre XLR inputs...
Replace my DAC or not?
I agree with Steve about signal reclocking to reduce jitter. I recently connected the ISO Regen and LP1 power supply to my Ayre QB 9 DSD DAC and it's made a fantastic improvement. And my Ayre DAC is by technical standards, antiquated as well. But ...
Thorens TD 145 MK 1 ; How Many Tonearm Options Are There?
mattmiller, I had the Grado Statement (low output) Sonata 2 on my arm but I prefer the mc AT33 mono cartridge. With a much better tonearm, I'd consider a higher end mono cartridge.williewonka, thanks for the Audiomod info. The series 5 has a reaso...
