Phono Preamp suggestions $2000 (pre-rabbit hole tire kicking edition) @dsockel thanks. I had not looked at Graham Slee. Results Nee crazy positive and the price is good. I will look into it. Have you compared it to other phono stages?
Audio envy - dang! @lalitk I do definitely want clarity. Perhaps I’m incorrect but I associate clarity with “presence”. One thing I’d like my little congregation of equipment to do is to have that “in the room presence”. Like you’re in their room while they record.
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state? @rodman99999 I got the Aperex from him originally and they were really good. Still quiet though getting microphonic now. I like their sound but wish they had the Mullard’s top end. For whatever reason the Amperex seem to have like an extra 1/2 oct...
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state? So for the first time in months I had several hours to spin this weekend. Relaxing is so rare.Anyway, I was in evaluation mode for a lot of the time and it seems to me that with either the RCA’s or the expensive Mullards the sound is very solid st...
Phono Preamp suggestions $2000 (pre-rabbit hole tire kicking edition) @atmasphere reading about the 4718 and seems positive but very little info out there. Will research current mode phono preamp’ further
Phono Preamp suggestions $2000 (pre-rabbit hole tire kicking edition) @atmasphere I'll take your word on it because I don't know anything (I really don't). Music is my way of not setting myself on fire and jumping from a bridge or tall building (anxiety is fun).So any recommendations then based on the criteria you o...
Phono Preamp suggestions $2000 (pre-rabbit hole tire kicking edition) @atmasphere it would be left on 24/7 like my current one.Regardless of semantics, which I’m not going to debate, people know what is meant by "slam" and "dynamics" which is why I use the terms.
Phono Preamp suggestions $2000 (pre-rabbit hole tire kicking edition) @goldprintaudio yes. I am currently running mm carts and will someday get into MC so I figure I can just go with a matched SUT and cart when that time comes.I love the thought of tubes but there's a strain of thinking where I keep returning to s...
Phono Preamp suggestions $2000 (pre-rabbit hole tire kicking edition) @avanti1960 heresy for sure but my concern with the Sutherland is that its so transparent that its not really there. I don't mind imparting on the sound a little, its the spice that makes the dish tasty. The 2 power cord/IC's 18 feet apart is a di...
Audio envy - dang! I am looking to go all AE (RCA+Speakers) but I have to admit the comment about being less warm than Morrow is a concern. I am running SP4 speaker cables and a Ma3 between preamp and power amp and I would like a little more warmth. AE had been the ...
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state? @leemaze The Mullards from Upscale were quiet after I put the attenuators on. I have so much gain in my system that I really don't know what anything means anymore other than the first set of RCA's I got early last year must have been perfect beca...
Phono Preamp suggestions $2000 (pre-rabbit hole tire kicking edition) @rsf507 thanks. The Atma is a pricey piece. I'll keep digging.
Phono Preamp suggestions $2000 (pre-rabbit hole tire kicking edition) @rsf507 good to know. You’re using the power supply as well?also, what preamp did you have before the PH-10?
Phono Preamp suggestions $2000 (pre-rabbit hole tire kicking edition) @rsf507 Do agree with the assessment of the TAS review of the Ph-10?https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/gold-note-ph-10-phonostage/?page=3I'm just curious
Phono Preamp suggestions $2000 (pre-rabbit hole tire kicking edition) @luxmancl38 I had not thought of the e-250. That seems solid if I ccan get one used. thanks.@rsf507 I keep looking at that one but the screen and software part worries me. When the screen craps out then a functioning unit is rendered useless. I w... |
