What decibel level do you listen at?
The better the resolution of your system, the quieter you can listen without losing presence or detail. Putting it another way: as my system got better an better over the last 30 years, I tended to listen at lower and lower average levels.
VPI Enthusiasts: Going Backwards?
I have an Aries 1 and have no desire to "upgrade".
Conrad Johnson PV-10 vs. PV-11
PV-11 is a much better preamp, as it should considering the disparity in price.
High powered point to point tube amp?
And there you have it. Everyone has an as--hole and everyone has an opinion. LOL.
High powered point to point tube amp?
Atmasphere doesn't work at 1.8 ohms
High powered point to point tube amp?
The Quicksilver M-135 monoblocks are out of production, but they occasionally come up for sale used. If you use 6550s or KT-88s, they will easily put out well over 200 watts. They can tolerate difficult speaker loads far better than most amps.
Most unusual/mesmerizing female voice.
Lani Hall
KLH Model Nine, how do I depot the wax cans?
You have to put the power supply in an oven and SLOWLY advance the temp until the wax melts. Before you do, make sure you make a template so the female jacks in the power supply line up properly with the male plugs on the speaker itself.
love my ARC LS7.. but need remote, suggestions?
Quicksilver makes a linestage with remote.
Where to find Shuguang tubes?
Quicksilver Audio sells them.
12at7 with 12ax7 tubes
Dropping a 12AT7 in for a 12AX7 does more than reduce gain. The cathode and plate resistors should be changed to make the 12AT7 operate in the most linear fashion. The two tubes have very different transconductance and plate resistance.
Quick poll How long have you been in this hobby?
Since 1971
Luxman CL-35MKIII or Audio Research SP-8
I've owned both. The SP-8 is clearly better.
Excessive woofer movement with a VPI JMW 9 ?
The problem is not endemic to unipivot arms. The problem is probably an arm/cartridge resonance that is either too low in frequency or too high in amplitude-- or both.
Someone familiar with older KSA Krell amps
Only the early series Krell amps were truly class A. The orginal KSA series, KMA series for example; the S series was not class A.
