Solid state amplifier $2K Used or New
Hello-I've owned an Ayre V3. I never thought I would say this but you really owe it to your self to hear an Audio Research 100.2, depending on what your impedence match is between your amp and preamp the difference can be night and day. I had been...
BAT VK 500?
BAT makes great tube gear. I think that their solid state is lacking. In the price range that you are looking I would check out the Audio Research 100.2 which is also solid state. It has replaced my Ayre V3 and I haven't looked back since. Gary
TT opinions please
I would have to agree with Albert. The Basis 1400 with the Rega arm is a great combo. This table is also a great match for the Graham arm or the Morch arm, which is what I am thinking of upgrading too. Also the Dynavector 10x4 is a great cartridge...
audiophile quality cheater plugs?
Or you can just cut the ground pin off. Ouch! Thats what i've done with the amps in both my systems. Floating the ground is really not a big deal. Many people do this a never have a problem with it. I've done it for years and I leave my stuff on 2...
Subwoofer or new speakers? - need advice
I had Spica Angelus for close to 8 years. A truly great speaker. One thing to remember, with speakers like the TC50 and the Angelus there is no such thing as overkill. These speaker turn night and day when fed with quality electronis. When I stare...
Audio Research Convert...
Rayd-I have Maggie 1.6's. With the 100.2 in place I am now getting more top and bottom than I thought was possible with the 1.6's. You really don't see many 100.2's used. I would try and pick up a demo from a dealer. When I have seen them they go ...
Antique Sound Labs
I bought a pair and for $240 they are amazing. Really nice midrange, tuneful deep bass and a clean top end. Within there limits you can't go wrong. I'm using them for a second system and have been very happy. Get the one with the grill covers, als...
Basis 1400 vs Clearaudio Champion
I own the Basis and it's match with the rega arm is like peanut butter and jelly. But seriously, it's a great table and with the external motor is also very quite. If I was going to upgrade this table I would look at the arm first. I've been told ...
Audio Research comparison
I know I'm a little off the course of this tread but... I have been thinking of selling my Ayre V3 and moveing over to the VT100 Mk1. For the reason that I have Maggie 1.6's and they really come alive with tubes. It would also be a better match fo...
Tired of SS amp.
It looks to me like you can use a good tube preamp. There are many choices out there. Best of Luck! Gary
dynavector 10x4 versus 10x4 mkII
This months Listener magazine has an article on just what your asking about! For what its worth I have a Dynavector 10X4 mk2 and think it sounds great.
Best tubes for modulus 3A
I would give Kevin Deal a call at Upscale Audio a call. I have been dealing with him for a while and find him to be a great help when picking NOS tubes. I put some NOS Tunsgrams in my M3A, and they sound great. Best-Gary
Ayre V3 owners. What preamp do you use?
Goldman- I would get the upgrade, what the upgrade does is opens up the top end a bit. If you remember the original reviews people said it was not as extended in the top end, the upgrade gives you alittle more air. I think it also gives you about ...
A Tombstone in the Living room????
Hi David- I also have a 2" slab of granite sitting under my Basis 1400. What a big difference! The granite is supported by 3 layers of MDF underneath it, each layer has Navcon between them. You got a great price on the granite, never thought about...
Shakti Stone?
Albert-VPI has recently come out with a "New Improved" version of the Magic Brick. Was wondering if you know if this version is still a problem with the magnetic field of the component? Best-Gary
