Why No McIntosh Recommendations?
@clearthinkPlease don't use the old argument that "it must be financial envy why others don't choose to worship what you worship" line of dialogue. Many on this site can afford whatever they want to afford and they vote with their checkbooks. Whil...
Why No McIntosh Recommendations?
No one is saying McIntosh is bad. Each time I have owned a Mac, it has been a reasonably pleasant experience (except for their digital gear or with the materially underperforming USB implementations they keep repeating). The 2275 tube integrated w...
Why No McIntosh Recommendations?
McIntosh has an unbeatable distribution and dealership network. Service long after the sale is wonderful, maybe even unmatched. Parts access and resale benefit as a result. It must be comforting that when someone's McIntosh ceases sounding merely ...
What is the best solid state amplifier you have ever heard?
I haven't heard that many and I tend to prefer tubes myself. With that caveat and the obvious fact I heard each of these with a significant amount of time in between and on completely different speakers/setups:4) Sugden amps sounded really nice3) ...
Schiit Ragnarok 2 (Fully-Loaded) / Digital USB input / No optical
Will you be using the headphone section? If not, then maybe a vidar, a saga and a bifrost mb?

What DAC do you presently use?
Schiit Ragnarok 2 (Fully-Loaded) / Digital USB input / No optical
What about the inboard phono pre? If your budget allows, you might consider keeping the Rag you have. The dac included is probably better than you think and better than nothing. It gives you an upgrade path by giving you a baseline. Also, no addit...
Schiit Ragnarok 2 (Fully-Loaded) / Digital USB input / No optical
Before you get too concerned, why don't you do a direct connection from your Mac to the usb input of the Ragnarok 2. This will give you an idea if the sound is worth chasing or if you should consider an external dac. Another option is if you have ...
SHL5+, Zu, Orangutan?
YMMV but I have owned 275’s and SHL5’s but at different times. I presently own O96’s.I was initially drawn to the 275’s because of the texture it imparted and over time that texture subjectively became mildly grainy to me. The SHL5’s are nice (Ive...
ARC Ref 6 tube dampers.
I used a full complement of Herbies in my 2 Ref 5se’s. There was slightly better balance top to bottom than with the ARC factory supplied thick rubber bands. No difference whatsoever on the 6550 with or without. Trust those guys in Minnesota! Alas...
can you add tone controls to a primaluna HP integrated amp
@bestbakerYou might even consider purchasing 2 Loki’s. When I had a vinyl setup and a digital setup in the same system, the frequency shortcomings of each were different, especially in the low end.

We should all honor "what the artist intended" without exception. Its a rule. My experience has been that the artist intended for the public to purchase and listen to their music. Full stop. Never seen a single musician refund my money in outrage ...
What is trully important?
Look at it another way, many studio monitors are designed to be flat and revealing to a fault so as to allow the engineer to tame certain parts of the performance so it will sound acceptable played back on the many different playback methods most ...
Buy a $40,000 10 year old amp for $4,000 or new amp for same money?
In the book of intelligent questions, I’m struggling to locate this one. If something retailed for $40,000 and the ask is now $4,000 then I wouldn’t worry too much and drink its former Koolaid. Cars and stereo gear seem to get alot of comparisons ...
amp to buy?
If you are starting off though, make an appointment to go to a dealer who will spend some time with you and teach you the basics. It will save you some money. Where are you located and some fellow audiogoners can make dealer suggestions/introducti...
