B&W 804s too bright I would upgrade your source first. B&W works very well with a non-digital sounding source. Try Neko Audio D100.
Best $1,500-ish New or Used Floorstander - Energy RC-70 at Vanns. Beats speakers costing double the original retail price ($2k).
low end floorstander or high end bookshelf? Would you lose anything without that dedicated midrange driver in the 683? Or can single drivers in bookshelf speakers sound pretty darn close?
Cables for B&W and Rotel system. For what it's worth, Audioquest is listed on B&W's New Zealand website (along with Classe and Marantz). http://www.bwspeakers.co.nz/I've read many owners using either Kimber Kable or Audioquest with their Rotel/B&W gear. They usually recom...
Sony CA9ES CD Player I own it's little brother, the CA8ES, which I bought from the late great Gene Cavanaugh (Record Shop, Cherry Hill NJ) back in the summer of 1995. The player has given me trouble-free operation since then and it still sounds wonderful. Just for fun...
CD player to compete with my vinyl rig? There is a comparison between the Rega DAC and the Neko over at the Neko forums. Transports shouldn't be a problem with the Neko as it has excellent jitter reduction via the Wolfson receiver. I have tried a few with mine and prefer a Sony DVP-S999...
CD player to compete with my vinyl rig? A used Neko Audio D100.
Need help matching DAC to speakers and amp Jeff, Neko Audio D100 fits your description perfectly. It uses Jensen transformers (no opamps) in the output path. A lot of people have heard it and it's a real bargain for the money. They even offer a free in-home 30 day trial. www.nekoaudio.com
CD Player Recommendation If you like the sound of Rotel, why not stay with Rotel? Their newer RCD-1520 ($999) is quite good and if you want to save some cash you could look for a used RCD-1072.
New Rotel RCD-1520 Any issues with scratches on your discs from the slot loader? That is my one concern with the RCD-1520. Also, my RCD-1072 is a bit forward as well, making the music sound lively and dynamic without any hint of fatigue. Is the new RCD-1520 harsh at...
New Rotel RCD-1520 I'm very interested to see how it stacks up against your RCD-1072, Pdn. Keep us informed :)
Denon DCD A100 I believe there is a review for the DCD-A100 on AudioReview. I also remember reading a thread that claimed their integrated amp, the PMA-A100, uses McIntosh parts. Like you, I'm interested in this anniversary series and it's unfortunate there's no...
Why do I always like a source with Burr Brown DAC? Mrtennis, what left you feeling underwhelmed?
Why do I always like a source with Burr Brown DAC? All of the CD players I've bought over the years all include BB Dacs. They all sound good but I have nothing to compare to. But I think the output stage is what matters most, as long as you have a good quality chip...regardless of manufacturer.
Benefits of brand synergy "In practice individual brands will do some things better than others. For example their amps might be good, but their CD players not so much." That's what I've noticed too, particularly from many budget manufacturer's. It led me to wonder if the ... |
