And My Budget Is... Chayro-Great post. My wife has terminal cancer and I have cried bucketfuls of tears - I am not sure how i can face her death without coming apart. In any event, since I find solace in music, I have been responsible, but I have not punished myself ...
Accuphase e800 or luxman m900u for sonus faber olympica nova 3 The Luxman 900 "combo" can be purchased for less than $20K. I do not like the sound - it is too smooth and should I say "musical"? I am a tube guy and I hated this combination.
Power cord choice? Hydraulics provide a good analogy for those who do not understand electrical flow. My recommendations in an AC cord would be limited to those that are either large diameter (small gauge number) with great material (best copper - I do not know abou...
CD Quality Versus Streaming Quality The RIAA 2020 year end report demonstrates streaming music is dominant in the marketplace, but I think that 3 caveats should be mentioned:(1) During the year(s) of Covid-19 (SARs-Cov2) pandemics, of course streaming will have gained more traction ...
CD Quality Versus Streaming Quality Streaming will eventually be better. However, unless you have examples of wide dynamic range LPs recorded using analog equipment, most vinyl disks recorded using digital methods are not significantly better then are hi quality CD formats (SACD, UH...
Gryphon Mephisto That sounds wonderful (pun intended). Enjoy it! ....And I thought I found musical nirvana with ARC 250SE monoblocks and Wilson Sasha DAW speakers!...
What DAC upgrade made you say “DAMN, that sounds SO MUCH better than my last DAC”? I have an Esoteric K-01xd with the best FPGA programmable DAC (64 bit) that I have heard...beats both the best DCS and MSB Tech DACs in my system. I think that the context of the other components in the system as well as what you listen to is of p...
Manufacturers past their heyday One of my father's friends was Rudy Bozak. In the late 1950's, he made my dad a custom pair of Bozak speakers. We lived in Connecticut close to where (Dr.) Bozak had a facility - he was a great fellow, and I do not think that his work was archaic ...
Which is better? My bias is towards string instruments (mostly so-called "classical music") and tube-based equipment. I had the M900 for awhile and I found it great but too smooth and musical for me in way that I do not hear from tube amplifiers. I currently use t...
BEWARE OF FRAUD with this member I would never use PayPal for any transaction of this type. I only deal in wire transfers and I confirm the buyer's or seller's existence using orthogonal methods.
My Apologies to Miller Carbon Although I almost never post here, and do not necessarily agree with his politics, I have always felt that millercarbon was one of the more knowledgable folks on this forum. Although I sometimes argue with my son the engineer up here in Michigan a...
Blindfold Speaker testing mozartfan-Do you know about genetic and non-genetic variation among individuals? This variability requires a much larger sample size to produce any meaningful outcome.Again, an individual's central and peripheral auditory system is the largest var...
SLOT LOADING CD MECHANISMS - DO THE DAMAGE CD'S? The high end Esoteric, DCS, and MSB tech CD players/transports all have tray-loading mechanisms. They are not slots or tops, but trays which slide out of the machine on which the user places the disk. DCS and many others used to use Esoteric's mec...
Deja Vu all over again I agree with georgehifi. I do not know about the R2R ladder DACs - I use the new Esoteric K-01XD player for SACD, CD and MQA-CDs. Even the expensive (>$50) vinyl records do not compare to the sound from these CDs, and streaming is worse as well.
