What Integrated Amps have the sonics of Separates?
Actually my "just listen to the Music" amp is the Mac 2275. Mine was purchased used for $3600.00 and it offers excellent "tube" sound, plenty of flexibility, reliability, and enough power to drive most speakers (currently it drives B&W 805's t...
Inexpensive high efficiency bookshelf speakers
I'll second the MET7's as I too purchased Met7's when they first came out along with the matching HF1 ribbon tweeters. For a long time (as in 20+ years) they were the midrange part of my main speaker system along with 2 Atlantic Technology 8" 70 w...
Upgrading Music Hall 2.2 tone arm.
Thanks Tom, and you are correct if there is an arm change involved the is no point in staying with the MMF 2.2.Best Regards, Jerry
Upgrading Music Hall 2.2 tone arm.
OK after reading both Tketcham's and JohnnyB53's posts it seems to be a general misunderstanding that a Linn Basik is a form or variation of an LP12.This is simply not so. The Basik was Linn's attempt at a budget Turntable. Attached below is a lin...
Upgrading Music Hall 2.2 tone arm.
Tom,What I wrote was "Better than a "Linn Basik",which is what Roddierod said he had owned in the past not an LP12. Do you know the difference? I also specified the original version Basik with the not so great Basik arm. The Akido version was a su...
Upgrading Music Hall 2.2 tone arm.
You can obtain a substantial increase in performance by adding the Project Speed Box II (as the MMF 2.2 is manufactured in the Project factory and is actually a step between the Debut III and the Xpression III) and the Project acrylic platter upgr...

I currently own and use the following ARC products:a). D75 - has been my old standby for 30+ years. I recently retired it till I have the time to change the filter and coupling caps it has never been serviced other than replacement tubes.b). SP7 p...
Audio Horizons TB 5.0n Tube Buffer ???
I own and use both the original Musical Fidelity and the V3 versions along with a Yaquin single tube version that I picked up in Hong Kong for cheap. I honestly think that they work wonders when used with most inexpensive CD/DVD players adding the...
Integrated Amp - Looking to replace my amp & pre
Mac 2275 excellent sound, convenient to use with a wide range of inputs and outputs, remote control, no exotic tubes and an excellent phono preamp (especially with Sovetek 12AX7LPS's in the phono section). This is the heart of my base system while ...
MC for MusicHall MMF2.2
Ed is correct your Linn with a Rega arm is an excellent combination and as Ed says equal to or better than anything under a $1,000. kevmaster, a used Rega P3 is an good choice easy to setup, trouble free and excellent sound. The LP12 (and I use one...
MC for MusicHall MMF2.2
My apologies,I just checked to be sure and I was wrong on the platter material. It is ferrous and quite magnetic. So you would have to upgrade to an acrylic platter to accommodate a moving coil. The difference from the 2.1 is that it appears to to...
MC for MusicHall MMF2.2
Ed,I never suggested he should not repair the Linn. Absolutely it should be repaired but telling Jazzhowell that the MMF2.2 could not handle a DL160 and that he should sell a perfectly good turntable and take a loss because you had issues with a p...
MC for MusicHall MMF2.2
Ed, You are a professional reviewer and of all people should be aware that one of the changes made in going from the Music Hall 2.1 to the 2.2 was the tone arm. The new arm has a one piece Headshell and arm formed from a larger diameter aluminum ...
Tube Phono-Stage question.
Try a pair of Sovtek 12AX7LPS tubes they will be quieter and should have the same or better bass response. You should pay about $12 each. These are the best new production 12AX7's for use in a Phono stage (maybe the best period).
Cheaper substitute for VAC Avatar?
The Jolida JD102B uses EL84 output tubes that have great sound and are inexpensive to replace. Ideal with the same type higher efficiency (90db and up)speakers and should run you less than $600 including shipping.IMHO one of the best values in aud...
