'Unlistenable' early digital recordings?
Telarcs are an excellent example of early digital that showed off dynamics but tended to sound rather hard and metallic sometimes, but some are great. It depends. The Terminator and Robin Hood CD is pretty amazing. And many others, too.
What’s your vote for the most ridiculous, overpriced, and useless tweak?
Thanks for reading! More on information fields here, short YouTube video, how writing different kinds of messages affect the formation of ice crystals,https://youtu.be/tAvzsjcBtx8
What is the least compressed signal?
n80Are you sure quibbling is exactly the right word?>>>>I was responding to erik_squires, who quipped he didn’t wish to quibble then proceeded to quibble.
What is the least compressed signal?
And furthermore, and this is going to sting a little bit, but when the engineer is very careful to preserve dynamic range on the CD the full dynamic range of that CD can never (rpt never) be realized in actual practice for the reasons I’ve been ho...
What is the least compressed signal?
I suspect the previous post makes some critical errors in logic. First off the bat, attenuation is not the same thing as dynamic range compression. Attenuation actually preserves the dynamic range, just as increasing the gain preserves the dynamic...

Then why are you quibbling? 🤔
A reappearance of Black Diamond Racing?
Lead is the sort of material audiophiles instantly fall in love 🥰 with. Not too hard. Not too soft. 😬

What is the least compressed signal?
erik_squiresAs has been noted before, early CDs were severely compressed compared to their vinyl counterparts, so the mastering and the tech both impose the limits we hear. >>>Actually that’s not true, whoever said it. In the early days t...
A reappearance of Black Diamond Racing?
“Geoff disapproves of lead.”You can say that again. Where lead is the most obvious for anyone who’s never figured it out, the bass gets all messed up, unnatural sounding and glumpy. It’s one of the very worst materials ever foisted on young naive ...

How many of us are truly satisfied with their systems?
If you’re satisfied with the sound of your system there are two possibilities. And I don’t mean this in any derogatory way.  One is you’re easily satisfied. Two is you don’t understand the problem. It’s practically impossible for the average audio...
A reappearance of Black Diamond Racing?
Do I detect a typo or something in that last post? 🤔
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report
Dylan Blonde on Blonde, gold CD. Gold is good! 🤗
A reappearance of Black Diamond Racing?
Never got off on em. It wasn’t due to lack of trying, either. I find BDR cones to be toward the bottom of my short list with NASA grade ceramics at the top. I have found extremely hard cones sound best, more open and more dynamic and more natural,...
