Good Classical discs for "beginners"
Mercury Living Presence "best of" compilation, "Being There"
What's your latest "Discovery"
second Jorma Kaukonen's "Blue Country Heart" - stunning
XLO burn in disc:
The burn-in track should be played for at least several hours but better to play for up to three days. Play must be continuous. Track 3 is outstanding for speaker placement.
I need a recording with a good drum solo .

Preamp Isolation Cones Without Going NUTS
i agree with remarks about DH Cones (from Golden Sound); I use the Super size cones in addition to Jumbo and Large sizes; extreme hardness of NASA ceramic material (next highest to diamond - hence DH (diamond hardness) - yields lightning-fast (mec...

DVD player lasers are 655 nm (red) while almost all CD player lasers are 780 nm (infrared)...it might get a little complicated to analyze the color situation, as the color(s) of the ink of CD label enters into the picture as well...

Sean - the so-called permanent markers (ink, not paint) can be removed with over-the-counter isopropyl alcohol. The big Marks-a-Lot and Staedtler pens give good results (for green and violet and red). For blue-green (cyan) I use Sharpie, but only ...

Strangely enough, On Mercury Living Presence CDs red marker on edge will always sound better than green; on almost all other CDs blue-green (cyan) marker will almost always sound better than a pure green marker. Black marker on inner edge of CDs w...

Metralla, you're very close; the index of refraction of polycarb layer is 1.55, then the wavelength of the 780 nm laser in the polycarb layer would have to be 500 nm, which is actually the wavelength of cyan (blue-green). Following the theory of c...

Another wrinkle in the CD edge coloring problem. Here is link to a color wheel:http://hort.ifas.ufl.edu/TEACH/floral/color.htmEven if one wishes to believe that red is the color to be absorbed, cyan (blue-green), not green, is the complementary co...

Herman, Hi again, the reflected laser light doesn't have a chance to come out of the plastic medium and be red light again (in air) - it's too late; it has already been absorbed by the color you have (hopefully) painted around the edge of the CD. ...
