It’s actually not the recording that’s louder. The recording is not the issue. It’s the CD format that’s compressed and made louder. That’s why they call it the Loudness Wars. As I said you can make the level higher and still not risk blowing up s...

They are already loud as soon as you start playing them. That’s kind of the whole point. The level is set higher on the compressed CDs than it is on their uncompressed brethren so they play louder. You can’t get in too much trouble because the pea...

OK, I didn’t want to do this. Here’s the Radiohead page from the Unofficial Dynamic Range Database. Keep in mind the number 14 represents the first number in the Good range for dynamic range. The colors obviously represent Bad, Transition, and Goo...
Someone had mentioned Christopher Hansen on a thread I read the other day

Suspensions on turntable...really effective?
Well, it's pretty obvious the springs for the Linn are the wrong springs.  Because if they were the right springs the turntable would not be affected by footfalls.  There is a very simple relationship between resonant frequency, mass and spring ra...

Sorry to disagree, Mapman, but music is ALL about dynamics. You can throw all the rest of the stuff away. You know, frequency response, bass response, resolution, all of it. If you can tolerate elevator music more power to you.

I like Radiohead quite a bit but the one thing I don't like is that their whole catelog is compressed dynamic range wise and I don't mean just a little.  What's up with that?
Footers under big heavy speakers (Stillpoints Ultra 5, Sistrum rack, Finite Elements,..?)
That's cute.  Obviously you're not familiar with roller bearing assemblies for uh, audio.  As the other dude just explained it all depends on which direction of isolation you are referring to.  You know, of the six directions of isolation.

Eggs ackly! That's why it's a good idea to use springs for the vertical direction and roller bearings for the horizontal and twist and rock and roll rotational directions. That's what the big boys do, anyway.
The Distortion of Sound
Of course it should be pointed out just in case, that volume and dynamic range are not you can't for example reduce the dynamic range by turning down the volume. Apparently the powers that be at a lot of the big music companies got together and de...

SACDs?  Yeah, like I'm going to go buy an SACD player or Blu Ray player so I can listen to audiophile recordings.  Besides SACDs are being compressed too.  Didn't you get the memo? ;-)
Best Acoustic Carpet and Padding for music room?
Carpets and even acoustic carpets are usually not good for the sound. And carpets or SONEX placed on the wall between the speakers is usually not good either. But they SEEM like such good ideas. Even those foam filled Ikea chairs, Puong or whateve...
The Distortion of Sound
If the music companies (Columbia, Sony, etc.) were smart they would issue two different versions of CDs - one for the boom box and iPod generation and one for those that want the dynamics, audiophiles and whoever. The movie companies offer DVD, Bl...

Ball bearings can provide isolation, especially in the rotational directions, just like other roller bearing or ball and socket type isolation devices such as Dharumas and even steel springs which are not rubber type material now that I think abou...
