PS Audio new Stellar Phono PreAmp?
Yeah - I was following it a bit, mostly out of curiosityBUT - It does seem to me that they have made a conscious effort to "Sweat the details" within the realm of semi-affordability.Check out their U-Toobe video on the design considerations, as ex...
Separate Phono Pre - $$ before I will hear a SIGNIFICANT difference vs. integrated?
Thanks, "elizabeth7" -I never really thought of that. But if I were to go the "Tubey" route - then, SEPARATE Line Stage and Phono REALLY makes sense, so as to save hours on the Phono Tubes when they are not being used (I currently listen to CD / ot...
Separate Phono Pre - $$ before I will hear a SIGNIFICANT difference vs. integrated?
Elliott -If one is a COLLECTOR and/or into "Vintage" recordings [Pre-1950's mono etc.] - that's where I would be looking for a restored (or restore it myself) H-K Citation I tube pre-amp.  THAT baby incorporated a switch to let you select about 5 ...
How do I smooth out violins?
Depending on your speakers - it may be something as simple as playing with the placement and alignment of your speakers. At the frequencies in the Violin range, human ears are pretty sensitive to reflected signals. Also, those frequencies "bounce" ...
Affordable Decent Preamp & thoughts on Emotiva XSP-1 vs PS Audio Stellar Gain Stage
For Schiit Pre - I meant to type "Freya" (or better yet = "Freya +") immediately above.
Separate Phono Pre - $$ before I will hear a SIGNIFICANT difference vs. integrated?
I’m NOT a big believer in "exotic" Wire and Fuses. I AM a FIRM believer in solid, quality connections. My Unbalanced Interconnects (ALL current interconnects) are presently Mogami Bulk types and Speaker Cables are #12AWG Belden. If I go with the PS...
Separate Phono Pre - $$ before I will hear a SIGNIFICANT difference vs. integrated?
I’m using the 7220PE as my Pre-Amp at the moment. Power Amp section bypassed. This supposedly also lets the Pre section work better, because the single internal power supply should never "break a sweat" driving the pre-amp section. Supposedly - th...
Affordable Decent Preamp & thoughts on Emotiva XSP-1 vs PS Audio Stellar Gain Stage
Yeah - I’ve also been debating one of the SP14 kits and building it myself. It seems that nearly ALL of the Preamps that many rave about DO seem to be tube types, and for a single-ended design, the SP14 gets strong reviews from a few whose opinion...

PREAMP - Thoughts on PS Audio Stellar Gain Cell
Thanks! That is really good - I am currently using the Pre-Amp stage of a "classic" (1980's) NAD 7220 Receiver as my Pre.It still seems pretty decent to my ears, but I am nearly certain that there has probably been some degradation (old Electrolyti...
Affordable Decent Preamp & thoughts on Emotiva XSP-1 vs PS Audio Stellar Gain Stage
Maybe I'm asking too many different questions on ONE post - think I'll split this one up and try again...
Seeking Streaming Receiver Recommendations
I would try a good "Basic" Receiver (Yamaha / Marantz / NAD) with a good built-in Amp section. Then, ADD a BlueSound Node 2i to one of the Inputs.BlueSound's APP is a "No-Brainer" - It can handle the Streaming, has GREAT sound quality (for what it ...
Recommendations for a Phono Preamp
If you can wait a month or two - perhaps keep an eye on the PS Audio Stellar Series.  They are getting ready to roll-out a new Phono stage, and it sounds like they have really done their homework.  (Check out the U-Toob videos on the subject)
