The MP3 is finally...dead!
Not to put too fine a point on it but there are MP3s and MP3s I’ll grant you there are some very high sample rate mp3’s that sound "good". Nevertheless, "lossy is lossy" :)
The MP3 is finally...dead!
And yet for all practical purposes MP3 is indistinguishable from Redbook CD by a panel of expert listeners in controlled blind tests. And what does that statement really mean? Yeah, if the source files burned to the Redbook CD were mp3 to begin wit...
Full detailed sound at 30 - 40 - 50 dB
Maybe the Schiit-heads next EQ (Loki Maxi?) will be balanced.Exactly! I mentioned that here: https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/schiit-reference-sytem-review-freya-into-yggdrasil-into-vidar...
Full detailed sound at 30 - 40 - 50 dB
If you are wanting full detail at lower volumes, this is an area where tubes rule. This is because they tend to have a lot lower distortion at lower power levels. Something to think about...Hi @atmasphere Given your statement, at what decibel leve...
Schiit Yggdrasil -- 21 bit?
Will the dac can using better power supply have better sonics?I'd have to write "yes", given what I was informed by Schiit tech support and that can be inferred from certain Yggdrasil literature.
Schiit Yggdrasil or Bryston BDA-2 opinions to help me choose!
But if you do PCM/Redbook/CD if it's 16/44 or 24/96 then it's best played on the Schiit being a Multibit dac which converts PCM/Redbook/CD bit perfect, unlike Delta Sigma of the Bryston which only can give a facsimile of it.That fact "sealed-the-d...
mono block or bi-amps which would you pick?
Mono is better, except in instances where it is not. Mono is simply transmitting a single signal channel to one or more speakers. That isn't better or worse necessarily, but if you're a die hard Beatles fan or into "AM oldies" I can understand how...
Full detailed sound at 30 - 40 - 50 dB
Note that creating an unusually quiet environment for a baby can condition the baby to not be able to sleep without utter quiet, sometimes not a good thing. I recommend a little background Grateful Dead music from time-to-time. The baby will grow ...
DAC break-in...
Worst case, if the experts are right, it will sound no different over time. On the other hand, you might find the sound gets better with time.+1This is my philosophy with regard to leaving my Yggdrasil on 24/7 (which I do not) and its break in per...
DAC break-in...
All elecrtonic equipment requires break-in time. But I’d have to imagine that **time** is the operative word, and that can vary from a moment to infinity.------I'd like to add clarification to my previous post where I wrote "The manufacturer does c...
DAC break-in...
...the DAC's I am interested in is notorious for a lengthy break-in.If you're speaking of a Schiit DAC, it is my understanding that many owners/users claim an extended break in period is required, while the manufacturer does not. The manufacturer ...
Schiit Yggdrasil -- 21 bit?
and I don’t agree with Thomas at Schitt that there is no "burn-in." (Neither does anyone at Head-Fi.org, for that matter.)That is not true as written. *Most* on head-fi (Yggy impression thread) agree burn-in is required (to optimize sound quality)...
Full detailed sound at 30 - 40 - 50 dB
Get some good headphones. +1The quiescent noise floor in my listening room at best is 30db (measured). Personally and IMO, anything music wise lower than 50db wouldn't be worthwhile to listen to from an enjoyment perspective. Background while havi...
Schiit Yggdrasil -- 21 bit?
Really?!? Schiit said it would void the warranty if someone used a different fuse???Yes, according to folks posting here https://www.head-fi.org/threads/schiit-yggdrasil-impressions-thread.766347/page-426See the most recent posts dating back from ...
RCA Shorting Plugs
@almarg I appreciate the rather prompt response on your part. Very prompt for that matter as I added an edit to my previous post. Given what you have just stated, might or should there be difference based on frequency? In the case of the M6si I'm ...
