SACD - Just Starting Out
The Al Dimeola SACD "Live in San Francisco" is excellent if you like acoustic jazz guitar, a very dynamic performance. If you like James Taylor and have multi-channel SACD, the imaging on a couple of tracks lets you know what SACD is all about. Ca...
Regarding a review in the Aug '02 Stereophile...
I recently purchased a pair of Audience AU-24 speaker cables & I/C's based on the review. The Audience is a VERY THIN CABLE and easy to connect to my EAD TheaterMaster-8, PowerMaster 1000 and Bohlender Graebener planar speakers which are bi-am...
Audience Au24 vs Empirical Clarity Speaker Cable
I recently purchased a pair of Audience AU-24 speaker cables & I/C's based on the review. The Audience is a VERY THIN CABLE and easy to connect to my EAD TheaterMaster-8, PowerMaster 1000 and Bohlender Graebener planar speakers which are bi-am...
Best CD sound from a DVD player
Sony is expected to come out with a new multichannel SACD/DVD player, more info at "http://news.sel.sony.com/pressrelease/2596" . It sounds lika a replacement for the 900 series rather than the 9000 series. Expexted price $1200.
audioquest gr8
I bought a 30 foot run for my surround speakers. For the money (on sale at HCM Audio) it is very well put together and sounded much better than the Audioquest F-14 they replaced. I actually enjoyed listening to the surround channels occasionally. ...
Want a 5 channel amp that can drive 4 ohm loads
I agree with Audiobob. I use an EAD TheaterMaster-8 with the PowerMaster 1000 to bi-amp my Bohlender Graebener 4 ohm speakers. The combo provides a deep musical tube-like sound. Buy them one at a time as you can afford them.
Bi-amp with 5ch amp, any hook up suggestions?
Quest for Sound also has a "phoenix pro 418" solid y-connector which I like or I agree with a quality y-cable as above.
Component video cable problem
I had thesame problem with my sony 7700 DVD player, it was the brand new component monster cable that was the problem. Got a component cable from Better Cables--no problem. Check the component video cable on a friend's system.
Preamps w/ built in Tuners
The Denon AVP-8000 is a very nice preamp/tuner. B & K also made some preamp/tuners a few years ago.
NEW Pre Amp Processor - Narrowing down the list
I have the EAD TheaterMaster 8 combined with a PM 1000. The combo provides a warm and musical sound, the PM 1000 was warmer with better midrange and bass than the citation 7.1. The TM 8 provided a richer, warmer sound with a little more detail tha...
Straightwire vs Harmonic Tech & Acoustic Zen ?
I never used the Maestro but Serenade made a big improvement in my system and is very forgiving. The Straightwire Crescendo is not forgiving and sounded brittle until I upgraded my preamp; at that point it was great.
Preamps with HT pass through
The new EAD preamps also have analog pass-thru and are very flexible except for a lack of AV-switching.
Anyone use a POWERED SUB with Center Channel?
Infinity made a cute little center channel speaker with an 8' powered subwoofer called the Overture-1. It adds more bass than you would expect from a center channel speaker but you still need a dedicated subwoofer.
Speakers with built in subs?
For my living room I have a pair of Klipsch KSP-400's with built-in 15" subwoofers powered by a Nakamichi pre-amp/amp combo. The speakers are big & heavy but no separate subwoofer needed. There is massive bass everywhere yet good top end for v...
EAD TheaterMaster 8000p vs Integra Research RDC-7
I just replaced a Denon AVP-8000 preamp with an EAD TM-8. The TM-8 sounds much better then the Denon but check carefully that you don't need more than the limited number of inputs and video switching. If you need video switching I would go with an...
