All in the Family My favorites-- The Cowboy Junkies are made up mostly of Timmins family members, ie Margo et al. Is that what you mean? Cheers. Craig
Energy, Environment & High End Audio I have a 300 wpc solid state amp that drops to about 130 wpc in standby, and I don't feel at all guilty about using the power I do for listening to music. My wife and I do not own gas guzzling vehicles such as SUVs or RVs, and for that matter we d...
Anyone tried a copy protected CD? I just read (in TAS I think) that Phillips has taken the position that adding "garbage" to a CD to prevent copying is not part of the "Redbook Standard" for CDs and is therefore technically illegal. However, the article also pointed out that Phill...
Replace headphones or add headphone amp I also own both the Senn. 580 and 600s (I use the 580s) in an HT system sometimes and the 600s for music in a separate stereo system-- sources are Sonic Frontiers Line 1 and 2SE pre-amps. I'd suggest up-grading both source and headphones, but I ag...
Synergistic dealer? Try "A Sanctuary of Sound", an Audiogon dealer-- just click on Browse here on Audiogon. Stewart Marcantoni is an excellent dealer and offers good prices. I've dealt with Stewart for 2-3 years now and can highly recommend him. Cheers. Craig
Felt tip Marker 1, Sony 0 Great thread/post Jeff. Thanks for the info. Craig
Do you listen to your heart or your eye? Sd; thanks for saying it for me. And BTW, I listen with the grills on. Also, the V5s fit very nicely into my room/stereo system. It may be a cliche', but I'd defend Marakanetz' right to express his opinion-- this is America-- too bad he's wrong th...
Why are there so many unopened amps, ect for sale? If the original buyer got a "closeout" or "firesale" price buy on the product (maybe a dealer that needed cash etc.), he may just see an opportunity to make a few bucks in re-sale, and of course an "un-opened" box would imply "brand new" and there...
Do power cords really matter? I now believe in BOTH good quality outlets and good quality power cords-- and I've actually tried a bunch of both of them. How could one believe that one is important but not the other? Sean said it well. Cheers. Craig
Do you listen to your heart or your eye? Appearance is important to me too, but it's secondary to sonic quality/character. I chose Vandersteen 5s-- they are sonically excellent and very attractive too, IMO. That said, I probably would not have bought the V5s if they were ugly. I guess I ...
How good does it get? Nice post Duke. Steve, your list of speakers covers both a wide cost range and a wide sonic range. The Vandersteen 2Ce/sigs are excellent and pretty forgiving speakers-- and don't cost a lot (in high end terms)-- I enjoyed them for several years, ...
At a crossroads...what's next Irler; Sean gives good advice. But if you're focused on a better amp (and the DNA-1 is already very good), I'd seriously look into just up-grading your DNA-1 to Rev. B or A by SMc. The up-grades really are excellent. Cheers. Craig
newbie need help on decision on buying an amp Hi Tt; The Vand. 3As would benefit significantly from more power, especially in bass control-- they have 8 and 10" woofers. Look for a good McCormack DNA-0.5 or DNA-1 (or up-graded version) for a really synergistic combination and good power/bass ...
Difference bewteen McCormack DNA-2 & DNA-1 ?? Also, the DNA2DLX has four pairs of high quality output terminals (Cardas I believe), Van den hul wiring and some other "up-graded parts" which made it about $700. more expensive (MSRP) than the standard version. But to really understand the diffe...
Copper Deterioration? Dr; I've seen properly covered copper powerline wires that were well over 50 years old, and underneath the cover, the copper was "squeeky clean". It's only when bare and under harsh envirnonmental conditions, ie high temperature and humidity that ... |
