Dedicated line questions
Hi Korn; I just had a dedicated AC system run to my stereo room. I had an electrician do it because I needed an exterior submain breaker box with four 20 amp breakers put in. The submain was fed by a 50 amp 220 volt breaker from the main breaker p...
Best female vocals on CD
....Agree with Deshapiro re: Emmylou Harris. Her best CD-- "Cowgirl's Prayer" is relatively recent and is an excellent recording. Also Linda Ronstadt's early music, ie Greatest Hits Vols. 1 and 2 really are GH. Craig
Best female vocals on CD
.....It's got to be noted that Margo Timmins voice is at once seductive, haunting, and intimate. WOW. Craig
Power Cords
Hi Mettef; I'm not the 'nerd but I also have Syn. Res. wire on everthing in my system except Cardas dig. cables. And I have SR MCs on my amp-- McC. DNA-2DX and pre-amp. On the amp, I got deeper bass but not more detailed or articulate. Still it's ...
Best female vocals on CD
Amazing, but all of you guys above have good taste. I totally agree with Lj's and Sd's Jennifer Warnes nomination and I really like both "Famous Blue Raincoat", and "The Hunter"; Re: John, I love Margo Timmins on both "the Trinity Session" and als...
All cables are Neuteral?
...You've got it right Carl. Pops needs to recognize the really important difference between "critical listening" and listening for enjoyment. Personally, I spend over 90% of my listening time in the enjoyment category, and the rest "critical list...
Who still sells NOS Telefunken 6922's?
Redkiwi; Are the Amperex 6922s, Holland mfg. the same as the "Bugle Boys" you've recommended? Rayhall, hope you don't mind me using your thread. Thanks. Craig
CDRs sound better than original!!!
Hi Ejlif; I'm glad you posted this question as I've been copying CDs with a Pioneer W739 CD-R and have observed the same thing you did. The CD-Rs are more "crisp, clean, and live", and thus more involving, but notably they are not brighter, at lea...
Bryston vs. McCormack
Hi (again) Fpeel; I thought AJ made the case for tubes very well also, and I've tried a comparably priced tube amp; the midrange and highs were beautiful, but the bass, although deep, was so slow, bloated, and boomy that I knew it was not for me. ...
Should I upgrade Levinson #36
Hi Pugs..; I just bought a 36S that had been upgraded to 360S status, and it is a tremendous DAC-- everything the above post said, eg deep articulate bass, dynamic, detailed, but still relaxed. I was upgrading from Muse Model Two which also is a w...
Bryston vs. McCormack
Hi Fpeel; Glad to hear you got a couple of good deals. The DNA-1 with SF Line 1 is an excellent combination. But-- if you don't like the neutral character of the Line 1 (I like it) just change tubes and you can get sound as warm as you want. Enjoy...
Bryston vs. McCormack
Hi Fpeel; I've not heard the Bryston's, and they have a good reputation, but I know the McC. DNA-1 is a great amp. I used it for 3 years with both Vand. 2Ce and 3Asig speakers. It's neutral enough that it should do well with the Hales. I also like...
Best audio mag
Sol322; I too did not care for the promo. lit. of Listener mag. It made me feel like I WAS going to buy it whether I wanted to or not-- too aggressive for me. At least for now. Craig
All cables are Neuteral?
At best, I could only afford about 3% of that $100,000. Monster cable-- and that comes out to about 3 inches. If I could get them hooked up maybe it would sound pretty good. Has anyone had any experience with "short" speaker cables?? Cheers. Craig
dac wars
Hi 84audio; It's nice to hear (see?) the opinion of an informed and honest person. Cheers. Craig
