Help me decide between these two turntable/cartridge combinations
Please allow me to add a third contender: Acoustic Solid. AS is a German manufacturer that makes much more interesting tables than the EAT/Pro-Ject and Rega you are looking to - imho. To your budget, the best fit is the Solid Metal 111. It weighs ...

@nandric Actually he has and there is a photo from it available at his site, I hope he doesn´t mind me posting the link here:   https://conchan1.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/sony-4.jpg
Who needs a Diamond Cantilever...? 💍
Halcro, Mr. Carr is definitely a much better source than myself, who wasn’t even born at that time :)As far as I understand, the cartridge was not readily available, very hard to get upon special order in Germany. So the price of around 7500 DM can...

Halcro, I unfortunately don´t have this issue at hand and it is not online anywhere. You can however take a look at the cover on this link:  http://www.hifimuseum.de/stereoplay-1983.html
Recommendation for Cartridge for Technics SL-1200G?
Technics challenges the resonance frequency theory by mounting a Phasemation PP2000 cart when demonstrating the new decks and tonearms.

@halcro I found by chance some more info about the XC88D. It made the cover of the German magazine Stereoplay in June 1983. It was ranked among the most exclusive and expensive cartridges of the time and it was very very hard to get. The official ...
So many great golden era DD tables out there, what do you recommend for $1000?
@uberwaltz Luxman AS4III switch. However, the phono connection is the worst place you could ever install a switch. The rule of thumb is to keep the connection as short as possible from tonearm/cartridge to phono preamp/sut.

Within this price bracket, I would recommend the Sansui Sr-929, aka "black beauty"

You have a very good point, @halcro , but it seems reasonable for you to try the Sony tonearm only out for curiosity ground based on your love for the Sony cartridge. I have never tried myself but have heard good reports about its performance.
Micro RX 5000 Renaissance?
@edgewear I am coming pretty late to this topic so I apologize in case I tell you something you have found out yourself in the meanwhile. In Europe, there is quite a cult of MS tables, particularly the RS and SX models.  I can understand why. As y...

@halcro Have you ever considered trying your Sony cartridges on a Sony tonearm of those days - Sony Pua-7 or even better the Pua-9?
Who needs a Diamond Cantilever...? 💍
Great pic, @halcro ! Thanks for sharing. I assume Mr. Kingdon is biased since he took part in developing those products, much like the connection between father and his offspring. The regular XL-88 (red body) is also a challenge to be found even i...

@halcro Henry, the man behind Sony UK since the '80s, Eric Kingdon, agrees with you: Together with the Sony PS-X9 tt and the XL-55Pro cart, he ranks the XL-88D at the top of Sony offerings in the audio realm. It is very hard to find this gem indee...
Best Analog for $10K
There is a classified at Agon of a used Amazon Referenz (very fine tt from Frankfurt, Germany) with an installed Moerch Dp-6 tonearm for under 4k US$. It is a bargain indeed since its retail price in Europe is around 8k euros only for the tt. I wo...
Lyngdorf TDAI-3400
Jcarcopo, thanks for the insights. Even though I was economical in my words there is no place to infer I demonized digital. Well, the very idea of considering anything Lyndorf makes it very clear. I am aware and actually adept of the digitizing of...
