Cartridges - what have you owned and your opinion Grado Green: Muffled. The midrange voice, though, sounds very human but as if coming through a screen door.Denon DL-110/160: Dynamic, exciting, like the Mummers. Lacking internal insight. Ortofon MC5: Smooth and detailed but no soul.Pickering TLS-...

idler wheel vs direct drive technics impressions I had a small evolution from Rega belt drive to Thorens idler then to a Technics DD. I think the Thorens had more drive and impact than the Technics. The weak link in the idler is linkage and Lenco having more linkage than the other idlers wold fa...

Should I try the Cambridge Audio 640p? I got one of those heavily modified Cambridge 640p's as well. It really breathes. Someone on this site is selling one for ~$600 if you just need to spend the money, else you can mod it yourself.
Soundsmith retips I have a retipped 103 that does have a difference in presentation. Faster, much faster and much more detailed. The tone though is similar to what it was previously.AT first it was a shock. But I have grown to love it. Big difference between a coni...
Herbie's mat with NAD 533 Adam18, That link I posted earlier was a mistake. Here is the one I wanted to post: http://home.comcast.net/~omaille/audio/NAD533/NAD533.html

Best cartridge for modded Technics 1200 st up on the 160. I don't know. I've had this issue with this cart across two different tables. It really shows up in comparison to the other cartridges. On it's own I wouldn't have a big deal about it. It's not a killer amount of sibilance, I sup... |
